Tour de France 2024

Pogacar's dominating climbing performance on very steep Stage 15 in the High Pyrenees is now being touted as the greatest of all time — with his winning final uphill attack the day before not far behind.

Vingegaard came in 2nd in Stage 15, almost 40 seconds behind. And without Pogacar, his performance would have been the greatest of all time!

Teammate Matteo Jorgensen said that Vingegaard was in better form in Stage 15 than in his 2022 and 2023 TdF wins over Pogacar. Fast forward to 2024, and now Pogacar's leaving Vingegaard far behind!

We're lucky to get to watch these two titans in action.

I was joking about the BBC coverage of cycling as their coverage generally is nil. I love the BBC but they don't get cycling or think it's a French thing or something, even when Team Sky was winning everything. A bit of a handclap for Cav especially as he is Sir Cav now but I bet behind the scenes there is confusion along the lines of "But he's never won the tour has he? so why all the fuss?". In UK we have the tour on ITV another channel which does a decent job, but with a lot of adverts or you can buy a subscription to Eurosport, now owned by Warners/Discovery channel. That coverage is very good, but yes it's another sub per month.

Wonder how many Americans are following in any form? Big golf tournament in Scotland is surely drawing many more viewers.
Did I mention already how I was shocked to see on that Netflix golf doc just how much golfers make? That golfer poached by the Liv tour and given $200M as a bribe! I nearly fell off my chair. And if Tiger (even at his advancing age) had gone over they were talking about $800M. Jesus wept.

Pog gets paid around $7M a year from his team. No doubt he makes a bit more doing coffee ads in Slovenia etc but to almost kill yerself every day climbing those Alps he gets small change compared to the guys who take a leisurely walk in the park carrying a stick, whacking a small ball and no doubt whistling as they work while counting up the cash. Their caddies probably get paid more than most cyclists. Mad world.

Because old rich men dont carve up companies on cycling tracks.
Are you sure about that? ASO is nothing but a bunch of rich old men as well as most of the Team owners and the UCI itself and plenty of sponsorships come and go....for sure cycle racing is more exciting to follow than golf though!

No worries. Glad you're having fun, too!

The widespread doping of the Armstrong era was the reason I stopped following pro cycling. Of course, that was an overreaction. This is the first TdF I've followed since then.
did lance have to eat crow after all that?

To this day I have no clue what they are doing during an NFL game, it just seems to be huddling, everyone assumes their position, then all run in different directions and it doesnt work and they all sit down for a drink and an Ad break, then the ref runs out with a giant arrow connected to a chain and theres 2 hours to play with three seconds on the clock . but I also havent a clue about both forms of rugby, even tennis confuses me.

Cricket is just so crackers, you can work it out and then rain stops play.

Basketball just seems to be giants dropping the ball into the net, the games end like 74-75.

I'll continue trashing US sports in the next episode of Limeys dont get it.

As a Yank, I look forward to the episode addressing the biggest thing Limeys don't get — the proper side of the road to drive on.

Well, that and how to pronounce "advertisement".

Victor Victor Campenaerts! Great sprint. Lovely guy. What a post stage interview. So emotional.
Looking forward to the post-race interviews, as I had to take a call right after Campenaerts, Vercher, and Kwiakowski (sp?) crossed the finish line. Would rookie Vercher have won if he hadn't gone too early after the 1 km mark? Did Kwiakowski lure him into that move?

NBC's announcers and commentators all have pretty impressive TdF credentials as journalists and/or riders. But after 18 stages, I've learned to pay no attention to their predictions — not on stage winners, not on tactics, not even 500 m from the finish line.

But as with TV weather forecasters, I do admire their perseverance.

Finally got to see Campenaerts' interview, and boy does he have some 'splainin' to do!

Spent much of it talking lovingly about his girlfriend and newborn son back home. But no sooner did he finish than a cute blonde came in for a big hug.

Same one we saw around him just after the finish line. Hoping for him that was his sister.
