Tire Air Pressure

I just purchased my first E bike. A specialized como 4. Great bike and what a joy to ride. My question is on tire pressure. I noticed that the tire pressure on the tire said 25 to 50 PSI. Such a huge range in tire pressure. I am running 35 PSI in the back tire and 30 PSI in the front. Seems to be a comfortable ride so far. I was just curious what other como owners run their tire pressure at.

Thanks the new guy.

Lower pressure in the rear will get weird tire wear. Near the top of the range, maintained daily will offer the best wear and speeds.

For pavement rides, as a rule of thumb, the higher the tire load, the higher the pressure. I've read that rear tire pressures are often adjusted higher than front when bike touring where you'll often have heavier panniers on the rear; https://www.cyclingabout.com/what-tyre-pressure-should-you-use-our-recommendations/ . Other than that the recommendations I've seen, and what I do, is to set my tire pressures the same.

How much pressure? For pavement and hard packed surfaces I put my tire pressures towards the upper end of their rating. This minimizes rolling resistance and increases tire life. For gravel, I drop the pressures towards the lower end for better grip and a bit more comfort.

Experiment with your pressures and find what feels best for you remembering that low pressures do run the risk of 'snake bite' punctures when any solid object (curb, rock, etc).

Ride On!
