The Phantom, a New Menace.

The Phantom Drone, or its many low cost variants, may be the new bad guy on our bike paths. Last night, we saw a family standing on the wooden footbridge ahead of us, and I thought they were looking at a deer, but as we came near, a kid was hovering a drone about 8 feet off the ground just off the bridge. I gave it a wave for his camera, if it was running.

Just a mile later. we have a solitary walker kind of meandering on the asphalt. I ring and ring and he's not listening. Swing left and yell "ON YOUR LEFT" and he's got a visor on. and a drone at shoulder height just in front, and he's viewing the world thru the camera. Crazy.

I've been thimking it would be nice to have a drone to augment my photography hobby, but I now see how they can be intrusive with people around.

When you look at the complicated FAA drone regulations, it is highly likely that both were being operated illegally.

We have a little private airfield 3 miles east, and pilots always circling overhead. but if you keep your drone under 20 feet, probably no conflict. I think DJ may implement airfield restrictions into their GPS software?

It just adds a new element. I watch out for little kids, dogs, etc. Now gotta be careful of running into a drone.
