It is an air suspension fork. I bought the bike in november so it's still pretty new. also it's a commuter bike that hasn't seen any offroad mud/dirt, only rain from my daily commute.

I had an annoying squeak at the fork on my emtb. It turned out to be the mud guard fender. Drove me nuts until I found the source. I adjusted the mounts and added some tape to buffer the rubbing part and no more squeak.

You are right. It is driving me nuts, also because it is hard to find the source of the noise while not riding at standstill.
I will take a closer look at that mudguard to see if it is the culprit.
