I have the opportunity to buy a brand new RED Turbo S for $4,500. But I want a front suspension fork. Has anyone added a fork? Or should I just wait for the Turbo X.

Did I mention how much I love the red.

The only issue is there are not a whole lot of suspension forks made to fit this bike. There are two key items, it has a tapered head tube and a thru-axle, you could swap then wheel out for a standard quick release style like the X, but it's not advisable. There are mountain bike forks made for 29ers, which will work, but they will affect the geometry of the bike because most of them are much longer than the ones made for this type of bike. X-Fusion makes a fork that you could adjust to 80mm of travel and that could work. It should only have a minimal impact on the geometry.

The fork used on the Turbo X is a new fork from Rockshox called the Paragon and it's really made for a 700c wheel with a quick release, something that hasn't been done much previously in the suspension market. There are some cheap ones out there made for hybrid bikes, but not to many real good quality ones with thru-axles and such. The thing is, manufactures generally want to make something for a large market and the one large potential market for these forks is Cyclocross, but they don't use them. They could make them for hybrid bikes, but they generally don't warrant the higher price tag of a quality fork.

Sorry for making my response so long, I'm just trying to express my understanding on this. I hope it helps.

You might want to just get the Turbo S and put a Bodyfloat seat post on it. I did this with the Super Race I've been riding personally and it has made the world of difference. My bike is just as rigid. You could also consider putting a set of balloon tires on the bike allowing you to run them a lower pressure and creating some shock absorption.

I think if I was in your shoes I would get the S, but maybe some current owners can chime in.

+1 on getting a suspension seat post.. I purchased a Thudbuster $125.00 and it was worth every penny. A competent Specialized dealer who carries the Turbo line would be the best source for info on front fork replacement.

Thanks for your replies. Really helpful.

Chris - can you suggest a "balloon" tire with some tread on it, please?

Big Ben is it really. It's the same tire used on the Stromer, I'm not sure what size you have clearance for though, maybe 2" wide, they also make a 2.15" but it might be too wide. Your dealer might have them in stock and maybe they can recommend the proper size. I know there's pretty good clearance on the Turbo, but I don't know how big you can go, you'll also want to consider if you want to run fenders as this might impact your options.

If you're talking about the Turbo S from the Spokes Etc at Vienna, make sure to check the battery capacity. I believe it 2013 battery but since the bike has been sitting in their lot of quite sometime, they could throw in a new battery + extra fork at no cost just to get ride of the bicycles.
I test rode a lot of bicycles at their store and I did see this Turbo for $4500. It's actually, just the Turbo, not the Turbo S at Spokes Etc.

PS: I like Red too and my present bike has red/black combo. Turbo looks great but attracts all kinds of people too.

Great response Chris...I think suspension forks are most unnecessary for road use. I bought a full suspension gel seat for $40 and never missed the full suspension bike..http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000UO6LJA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Finally back on and thought I would comment. Ravi - the $4500 was at my local Specialized dealer. It is a 2014 Turbo S. They have 4 of them and haven't sold one yet. A really AWESOME bike for that price.

I am interested in front suspension to cushion the ride up front. I had surgery on my right shoulder for a torn rotator cuff a few years ago and still feel it when I ride. Front suspension helps.

I guess I am trying to make a road bike into a cushy hybrid. I have decided to wait for the Turbo X and then make a decision. I really don't need the ultimate speed. Also, I am sure they will still have the S around.

Thanks for everyone's responses.

I saw the Specialized Turbo X (the $6K one) at my local bike dealer. They have it in red. What a gorgeous looking bike! They called it a "road bike" because of the tires on it, but I know the bike is intended to be able to go off road if one has the correct tires. It's not a bike I'm considering at all, but I did get to see it (and touch it). I should have taken a picture. Next time I'm in there I will. They transferred the bike from their other store. It's not selling, though they do have it sitting up front and you can't help notice it because the red is so bright.
