After 10000 miles, I have warn off all the nubs on the twist shifter on my while, making it hard to shift bare handed. Any ideas that would help me with shifting. Ed

my thumb shifter became the same way. I use a little drill to make little dimples in it that helped or scoring it with a knife crosshatch.

The twist shifter on my trike is like 3" long. The op is not asking about a ratchet shifter.
I know but bar tape and such dont actually stick. something thats going to be gripped a lot takes something that will really stay on well. some grip tape with some double sided tape may work too.

Use gasket sealant under with, Bar tape, Golf tape, or Baseball Lizard tape, over and it will do the trick. Trim the start and finish at a sharp angle, leaving a long sacrificial narrow strip at the end to tuck and pull. Then trim off it off. For a less pro look use hockey, or field hockey/Lacrosse tape and it will do. One down from that is white surgical tape, which gets dirty in 45 seconds. For the pro look, a quick tap with a soldering iron will seal the deal on the underside.
