Shimano Steps Display Unit Replacement

Hi all. My Steps e6100 display has become so faint that it's difficult to read. Can anyone tell me the procedure for replacing it? Des the new unit just slot in or does it need matching to the particular application? Will I lose my total mileage data? Many thanks.

Mileage is stored with the mid-drive motor. No worries.
