Hi all,
So, today I made a new set of handgrip windshields for my ebike. It's my second shot at it.
The prototype: I bought clear vinyl from the fabric store, cut it into a shape that I could bend around and velcro, to create hand shields. Worked pretty well, but they were floppy (because I used a conical type of design so there was too much flaring of the vinyl) and they were a smidge too short.
I didn't try a new design because it took a couple of months of using them for a new design to float into my head. I got a new idea last week, and hit the fabric store with teen daughter yesterday to get the materials, and sewed them up today.
Second try: The new design uses a cylindrical instead of conical design. The problem is to have a tight fit of the shields around the handlebar to prevent wind from getting in. How to do that with a cylinder? I made a section of fabric attached to the vinyl, put a casing in the fabric, and used a drawstring.
They seem quite ... awesome! We'll see how they do on my commute tomorrow and if a better idea comes to me, but in the meantime, I'm using these!
