For general information: Schwalbe Energizer Plus Tour tires, rear tire getting smooth at 9,720 kilometers. I am electing to replace both front and rear, and will keep the front tire and put it on the back when it is worn out.
I bought these tires three years ago, July 2021, for about €56 for the pair. I am replacing them with the same Energizer Plus Tour. The new tires have a slightly different tread pattern. The cost is about the same. I ride on hard packed gravel, asphalt, and rough concrete paths. I often have a fairly heavy load in the basket or am hauling a bike trailer.
I have had absolutely zero problems with these tires. The tubes in each tire went flat, a slow leak, and I suspect the rubber deteriorated around the valve stem since they were over 5 years old.
The tires could likely go for another 2,500 km before rear tire tread is completely gone. I have to get the rear brake pads replaced so might as well have the extra grip and puncture protection. The Schwalbe literature, in the section about replacing tires, actually shows a tire with the rubber gone and the underlayer showing. They imply it doesn't hurt anything to run the tires until they are dangerous.
