Hello, loyal readers and bike enthusiasts:

My name is Dani Robertson, and I am Matt’s daughter. I’ve only just now been able to access my father’s beloved website, and I come with the news that my father passed away suddenly but peacefully on 02/12/2025. Through Facebook connections or other social media, you may have already discovered this. For those of you that did not, I’m sorry. In words that I know my father would appreciate: this fucking sucks.

I hope that, very soon, a close friend of my father’s and fellow enthusiast Cody will be taking over ownership of this site and keeping it alive. I know that this is a community that Dad would hate so see disappear.

We love you, pappy, and but your wisdom and humor lives on in many places, including here.

Very, very sad news. My condolences to the family and thanks to Dani for letting us know. He'll be sorely missed.

@m@Robertson was one of my earliest and most important mentors on EBR. He brought his vast knowledge and experience and practical wisdom to bear on many of my newbie ebike questions — and many others I didn't even know to ask. Still follow practices I learned from him early on.

Matt had a knack for seeing all sides of a controversy, laying out their pros and cons, and explaining why he came down where he did. The world could use a lot more guys like that right now.

Oh my gosh. I’m so sorry to hear that. I only met him here recently, but I enjoyed my discussion(s) with him.

RIP. And thanks for letting us know, Dani.

OMG... no words have I...
Matt was an awesome contributor here (and I'm sure everywhere). He will be sorely missed.
To his family, stay strong and all the best.

I had no idea, and I'm so sorry. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I am so, so sad to see this-- indeed, he was a huge help when I started getting into eBikes, and was an essential part of holding this community together. Really appreciate your sharing this.
