Rear disc brake assembly disassembled

Hey, I've had my 20" fat tire folding Ecotric for about 5 months and have loved it for my daily driver to and from work, as it's all I have. Earlier, I was tightening up the bolts and came to the rear disc brakes. I notice some bolts are missing, 2 out of the 3 that hold the assembly on. And then the actual line came loose and for the life of me I cannot get the thing back together! The little spring is a pain in my arse and the bolt doesnt seem to want to catch and tighten. Are there any tips or secrets? I really need this bike by this Monday when I got back to work at 0430hrs. Thanks n advance for any help

Hard to tell from your photo, but those center threads don't look too healthy. Is it just the light, or did they strip out?

As long as the spring is oriented correctly, it should pop right in and give you room to set the bolt. You shouldn't have to force it. Does the bolt thread cleanly by itself? Leave the arm off and try it to make sure the threads are good first.

And the spacer over the spring looks tapered. Are you orienting it the right way to get it to seat all the way in?

Were you having any performance problems with this brake?

Looks like all 4 of the larger bolts securing the brake caliper and the mount are intact. You're holding the bolt that secures the actuator arm to the caliper. Which bolts are missing?

It does appear that the internal shoulders of the actuator arm are nearly worn smooth though the mating hex shaft on the caliper looks OK.

From your description it sounds like the threads in the caliper's hex shaft are also stripped. With a damaged actuator arm and stripped threads I'd suggest a new brake caliper. Your LBS may have one in stock.

Be sure to use a thread lock compound on all these bolts when reassembling. I use 'blue' Locktite. It prevents the bolts from loosening while riding, which it seems is the cause of your problem.

That bolt is stripped. It probably is 4 mm or 5 mm diameter x 10 mm long. Can't measure from this distance. If you can't get a new caliper, maybe a hardware bike or motorcycle shop would have the bolt. Back off 7/8 turn, stop when it clicks, then turn clockwise for best threading up.

Yeah its definitely been used, but it doesnt appear to have lost much if any threading on the brake caliper. I guess that's what I need to do is get a new one
