range test

Over the past few days I've been riding without recharging, from full charge down to the moment the meter dropped from 2 bars to 1 bar: 31.4 miles. I realize a better test would be to run the battery all the way down, but I'm not doing that. :)

Riding was done at around 50°, with moderate hills, mostly 6th - 7th gear, and liberal brake use. I used "Tour" exclusively. I'm rolling on 47x622 Marathon Plus at 60 psi (not OEM knobbies)

From this I extrapolate approximately 38 miles range in tour, and therefore 76 miles in eco.

What are your range observations?
 
What bike do you own and what are the specs? A co-worker rides an Interceptor, and does a 30 miles a day to and from work. I'm not sure what PAS he's using though.

Sorry, I didn't mention because it's the Bosch forum. It's mostly about the electrical stuff, motor/battery ... not a huge difference probably, range-wise (and performance-wise) among various bike makers. :)

To answer your question, mine is Haibike 29. Spec is US Performance line (350).

I am seeing a very similar range on a '15 FS RX running knobby nicks at 50 psi. I notice that moving let's say from eco to touring can almost double the power usage (20% to 40% eyeballing it) and I get like 3 mph more maybe? Given that, your eco range would seem in the ball park. In three weeks I'm going to find out when I start doing consistent long rides without time constraints. I'll update then. Every mph is a big deal on ebikes.

I will also try to do this again soon in "Eco". I just don't know if I have the discipline to stay in eco only for so many miles, over several days!

Pretty soon we're going to have real-world range bracketed pretty well with the Bosch system. :)

Yes Bosch has impressive range! Court mentions it in some of his reviews!

The most powerful setting, turbo, will go in the high 20s, like 26-28 miles. I'll try to do some real-world tests on that as well.
 
Eco did 25.5 miles from full charge to the drop from 4 to 3 bars. Slightly less distance than I expected. I am heavy on the pedals and on the brakes, so if you ride smoothly you might do better. My use extrapolates to about 64 miles range.
 
Well on one of my aggressive rides with +3000' it basically said I would run out in 2 miles after 7 miles up. The next seven miles were basically down and the range started increasing. Sadly, I can't remember when the ride was over, what it said the range was.

My commute is 15 miles and I do two commutes before recharging. I believe I could actually do three. The would mean a total of +1800 feet in elevation of ~45 miles. Mostly in Touring mode, but Turbo for a short climb and Sport for a longer less steep climb.

This weekend I pulled my oldest 9 year old son, 75 lbs using the 2014 neo jet for 20 miles. I kept the speed pretty low since there is no suspension in the kid carrier. When I went up hill usually was in one of the lowest gears doing 8 mph or less with the motor helping at a low level. Used one bar out of 5. Speed is the enemy of range.

My average speed runs about 13.5mph and yet I get pretty bad range on my EVO Street. For instance, yesterday I rode 20mi and used 3 bars! My battery was fully charged. I had 2 bars left at the end, but what I've discovered is that once I'm down to 1 bar, it could cut out at any time, with no warning. And yes, the battery is seated securely in the downtube AND locked. You can't remove the key on an Easy Motion EVO bike unless the battery is locked & I have the key on a keychain with lots of other keys.
 
@PowerMe, three bars is not bad if you are in PAS 2+. It all depends on hills, wind, speed, and assist level. I wonder if it works like this, at 8 mph if there is assist then you are providing 6 mph of effort and then 2 mph of assist. If you go 12 mph, you are providing 8 mph of effort and getting 4 mph of assist (in eco). The ratio of assist goes up substantially. The higher the level the more assist to effort and therefore the less the range. Its not about speed but about how much effort the ride provides compared to the bike. The higher the speed the more effort the bike provides. The highest two assist levels on BH are overpowered and pretty much you are just using your pedals as a throttle.

It doesn't count unless you run it to empty at least once!
