RADMINI Upgrade Controller and LCD

Hey All,

I Have had the RADMINI for a week and was able to put 14 miles on it before losing the controller. I found an LCD and controller that looks similar to the one used by the mini on Lunacycle:

Was wondering if anyone had experience with changing out the LCD and controller for better performance and reliability? This LCD has been modified and will go above the 20 MPH limit which is interesting.

Can't answer your question, but I'm curious to try setting the computer to a smaller wheel size... I guess only 16" remains... to see if it indeed gives it a few more mph. Of course the speedo and odometer will be wrong... I think for the most part 20mph will be OK for me but it will be fun to try. My mini is supposed to arrive today!

I would love to just get a working controller from RAD Power Bikes and get back on the road! Hope you have a better experience then I did!

Thanks, hope you're back on the road soon. Hopefully your issue was an isolated problem. I think you reported difficulty reaching 20mph, seemed low compared to the other scarce reports so far, maybe it was just a lemon and you'll do better with the replacement. I'm hopeful since the Radrover reports have been mostly positive. I sent Rad a question after I ordered my mini and they were very responsive, so even if there's an issue it seems they'll make it right.

I have had zero difficulty getting to 20 MPH. I am 145 LBS rider and do not have any big hills in my area. I was having a blast until the controller died. I am guessing its just a defective unit and I got unlucky. This bike has some crazy specs for a folding bike and totally met my expectations before it died.

The only thing I would really pick on is the weight and the gearing which was gone over in another thread.

why are you looking for a different controller, are RAD not replacing the blown one under warranty?

I am eagerly awaiting my new controller from RAD. I wanted to understand possible upgrades or replacements for this part. After biking 10 miles with no help from my ebike motor.........I would even consider having a extra controller in a bag or something like that for this type of situation. So the unlocked speed limit would just be something fun that came as a bonus from upgrading the controller. 20 MPH is great on this bike and I dont have a need to go any faster. If anything I would just like the gears to do more on the high end at that speed since the bike can sustain that so easily.

Upgrading this bike was always on my mind. I bought this bike for more of the package then the E-Bike goodies. The battery is acceptable for now and so is the power of the bafang motor. I just see this as easy plug and play stuff to be replaced in the future.
