I posted the following in another Portola thread (thanks BobP), but thought I could also start my own here.
Thanks for the great review on a great bike. I went to the Portola review on EBR and posted the following in the comments. For some reason it went to the review on the R1U 500, which hasn't been sold in two years or so, so I figure that nobody will see the comment there so I'd post it here. BTW, I have the 10.2 Ah battery and it does not have any modifications nor extras on it (i.e., no seat kit, phone holder, panniers, Slime - nothing).
I just got a Portola this afternoon. It was extremely well packed and arrived in four days to FL. I haven’t even ridden it yet but wanted to comment on one item – its weight. Using my home scale, weighing myself then weighing myself while holding the bike I came up with 65.6 pounds. Looking at the Ride1Up website right now it is claimed to be 59 pounds, which is a huge difference in weight for a bicycle. I have not added anything at all to the bike – it is completely stock as it came out of the shipping box. I’ve bought several R1U bikes in the past and really feel they are good bikes at a great price point (I own a 700 and two Limiteds), but they have been consistently wrong on their weights with every bike I have purchased. This one is the largest variance from their stated weight that I have experienced. They have a good product, but why should they have such a sloppy error? I can only think they don’t care if the product is misrepresented.
