Performance Line CX (Gen4) Ratcheting Sound

I have a one month old R&M Homage with a Performance Line CX (Gen4) motor.

From the second day of riding I noticed that occassionally (not every time it's ridden) the motor will emit a sound similar to that of a regular rear hub's coasting sound. It's definitely coming from the motor and not the rear hub as the sound stops once motor assistance cuts out.

Is this normal behaviour? I haven't been able to tie down the occurance to a particular event.

That is the ratchet in the motor. Just pedal backwards and you will hear it.

It's not the same sound pedalling backwards as when pedalling forwards, and as I said, it doesn't happen every day. I'm not sure why the motor makes different sounds depending on its temperament.

I will attempt to record it one of these coming days.
