NYC wants to license and register ebikes and scooters

Curious, why are ebike increases on paths a good thing overall compared to other increased use?
It reduces traffic on the roads. If they will start putting more regulations on ebikes it will increase the traffic on the roads, more traffic jams. You just push people around from one place to another.

My words were poorly chosen. My point was increased use of ebikes on paths is no better than increased use of path by walkers, analog biles, roller blades, . . . .

I've never witnessed a problem with traffic jams caused by bikes on a road; but I don't live where bike riders do other than share the road rather than think they own it.

Licensing and registration are just another money grab with no obvious benefit to safety. There can be speed limits without registration. Shared use trails such as rail trails could have speed limits for all bikes but I would hope that speedsters would recognize that pedestrians get nervous when a fat-tire e-bike goes whizzing by at 25 mph and slow down before they invoke unwanted restrictions on trails.
