Hi folks!

I am a long time bicycle rider and mechanic that worked in the Industry till about 2009 and then dropped off the face of the Earth due to some Shop mis-Management.
I kept all my tools and have a separate tool box that I do my “MR Rogers” deal in the neighborhood. I also pass along my skill set for those that want to learn about Bicycles.

So I have started my path forward to find a good quality, quick and torquey Bicycle with Fat Wheels. Out of everything I have seen since I left the industry, Fat Tires are calling me. Right now I am selling off some of my bikes locally so that I don’t have to Charge, or Drain the bank account. I am a fixed income retired person, so I am very careful with the way I spend my money.

One thing that bothers me is the cost of some of these e-Bikes. Some of the MTB’s are ridiculous in pricing, and some of these name brand companies have too many line items in their line ups. I can not afford a $3000 E-Bike and for some of these companies this is the entry level.

I have enough experience to build and rebuild bicycles. I just fully restored a RANS VRex Recumbent. This was fully stripped to bare frame, powder coated in Orange Metalflake and then fully rebuilt using some of the best parts I could find to include a front suspension fork with disc brake mount. It’’s a pretty wild lil recumbent to be sure.

I think I know where I am heading….I see some folks complain about some items on the bike I am looking at, but as a Mechanic I see things differently.

So that is me in a nutshell.

P.S. Yes I thought about trying to put a mid drive on the recumbent!

Welcome! I'd say you are perfectly positioned talent-wise to convert a regular bike to E. Only hitch I foresee is finding a regular bike that will take 4 inchers.

Oh so true! I run a high pressure Maxxis Hookworm tire on the front of the bike that is 2 inches wide. I LOVE having two of those on my RANS ROCKET when I had that. The VREX recumbent won’t allow that due to a brace that is in the way due to a taller tire in the 26x2.0 Maxxis tire. I was bummed after that! All the work to get the frame Pretty and I could not run that wide tire in the back…..

Bikesdirect and install a kit. BUT a decent kit and battery andvyore in about $1300. Cheaper hub motors and cheap battery and your in maybe around $700 gor a direct drive hub motor. Bafang mid drives $500-$700 no battery. Add $500 for a safe well made battery. I did a scratch build with a $100 frame and quality components and I easily spent nearly $2300. Fat tires are good if you reslly need thrm. I messed ip snd passed on scRsns frame. That would be a grest project bike. Fat tires are not inexpensive.
