New Poster - question about motor upgrade

I never measure how how it takes it to climb up a 11-12% grade… it usually able to do 14mph on a first street block going up, then it would drop to 11mph on the following blocks… I live in SF where it could be a smooth gradient and then super steep… I am in a neighborhood where there’s about approximately 11% grade for a 6 street block stretch..

When you're overpowering a motor like we're talking about, it's going to start overheating pretty much immediately, as soon as you start feeding it more than 350w. It's well known you can get away with this overheating as long as you don't do it long, and it's given a cool down time before you do it again.

That's why I was wondering how long you are going to need this much power. If just a few seconds, fine. You'll have fun with the set up. If it's going to be 5 minutes, I wouldn't recommend it at all, knowing full well you'll be at substantial risk of smoking the motor. Even if it's a 750w motor, it's only going to take a few minutes of 11-12% to get that motor hot. You'd still need to be careful with it.
 
For 6 street blocks of 11-12%, I really dont know how long it would take the bike to climb, maybe more than a minute or less, barring stop signs ahead… it will make the climb, but I will have to dime the throttle… I usually set the bike to S mode for more torque and accelaration when I am about to hit that area….

Based on the photo of the oem controller and battery, do you think it would be ok to swap the motor for an extra juice? Or replace the controller for the motor upgrade?

"I always answer the motor or controller first question with controller first, and agree with Harry on the bigger size. Beyond that though, and the fact I would undoubtedly go with a KT controller, it would be about the connectors used on the scooter. Are they waterproof, or no? KT offers them either way. Going the wrong way with the new controller is going to waste a lot of time and create a lot of extra work for the conversion.

Anyway, new controller in place, if that mod alone doesn't give you the increase you're after, THEN go with the motor, knowing the controller should have the capacity to handle anything you go with there."
 
An addition 3 mph would be more sufficient for my need… Hearing and feeling the 350 watt motor somewhat struggling to maintain an 11mph climb and I don’t want the motor to fail halfway.
Question - Are you using the throttle when you're maxxed out at 11 mph, or are you using PAS. If so, what PAS setting? On some bikes, PAS limits the current and only the throttle will give you maximum amps to the motor

Follow up question: the bike has a Julet 1 to 5 (9pin) connector for the throttle, brakes, display, light like this below. I am looking for a controller that is compatible for that type of connector, can anyone recommend a 500 watt controller?
