Hi,

New guy from the land of Bon Jovi, Sinatra, Springsteen, and Taylor Ham. Old fart who is still riding, and recently came over to the dark side. Coming from a Polygon D6, to a Giant Trance X E + 3. So far several rides in, and I am ecstatic. Granted the Trance is a 2022 model (bought used from TPC). Sweet ride with 136mi/4 charge cycles. Where before I was dying climbing hills now I smash them like anthills.

Welcome aboard! No shortage of old farts on ebikes around here, myself included.

We'd love to see the places you ride. My 3 favorite forum threads are the ones for sharing ride photos.

NB: There's a 2 MB file size limit on uploaded images.

Welcome KF2M! As Jeremy said this is kind of old fart central, I'm one of the younger farts at 69, you should fit in fine around here. Don't wear out the Giant Trance smile on those hills!

@KF2M: I looked at the picture first. A familiar shape of the downtube... 'It must be a Giant!' then I looked at the shocks and the damper... 'A Trance?' Only then I read your introductory text :)

Welcome to the Forums! I also invite you to the 2025 - Our Rides thread!

Actually, it’s the bright side. Congrats on making the transition and jettison any and all thoughts that you’re “cheating” or whatever with an ebike. What matters is that you’re in the saddle.

Love that bike. Terrific. Giant really makes some great hardware!

Hi,

Thanks for the warm welcome! I guess I'm one of the younger old pharts (62). But yeah I am loving the bike. On Sunday went to one of the hillier parks (Clayton Park) and smashed those hills like nothing. Last time I was there with the Polygon I nearly killed myself climbing a switchback/straight climb. But yes the Trance so far has been exceeding expectations. But me being me I can't leave things alone (being a card carrying member of the Fraternal Order of Expensive Sounds), and will be digging into this bike though there really isn't much to change. I did have to replace a rotor, and the derailleur since they got bent in shipping. Maybe add the Ridecontrol 2in1 dash. Actually not a maybe.. just have to find one.. I'm lucky to have two Giant dealers close by...

Cheers!

Add a Garmin Edge and connect it to the Trance wirelessly via ANT+. An ultimate display. I specifically say "Garmin" as I know it is fully compatible with Giant e-bikes.
Doubtful. I am not a fan of Garmin, and their products. I'll stick with my Pixel, and Trailforks. Plus the Pixel has crash detection (granted it is for auto's, but it does work on a bike. I know I inadvertently tested it once), and voice activation so when I riding solo (most of the time) somewhere in the middle of Hells Half Acre I can get help if I wipe out bad enough along with satellite SOS for when things really go sideways.

You wanted to spend some money, so... As you say your Trance has no display. Garmin has crash detection, which is sent to the world via your Pixel. E-bike display, GPS navigation, ride recording. Ridecontrol Dash is just a display, and I can bet it is vulnerable to water ingress... Garmin has enormous battery life, too. It is easy to crash a smartphone, while it is virtually impossible to crash a Garmin.

You see, I used to own a Trance E+ :)
