Mini Review of Fultyme E-Bike Hitch Mount 2-Bike Rack, 200 lbs. Capacity

Since purchasing my two Aventon Levels I knew I would need a hitch mounted carrier sooner or later. With very kind input, pics, and measurements from one of our EBR board members (Man Without Shadow), I ordered this $160.00 200lb capacity rack. My expectations are wildly exceeded and I am impressed. This carrier is rated at 200lb capacity and will secure my Level Step Thru models easily. It appears to be powder coated, double reinforced (where needed) steel. Assembly time was 1 hour. It is lightweight, secure, and collapsable for easy in vehicle storage. You can quickly load and off-load two bikes in less than five minutes. It tilts so you can access the trunk. Heavy duty carriage bolts and pins. The Walmart rack goes in and out of stock quickly, but it is available from other vendors too. YMMV.

See how the 4 wheel wells tilt down? I added shims to fill the gap, used nuts to tighten the wells (got rid of the plastic handles since most bikes are real close in wheelbase). Now both my bikes sit upright and not tilted.

So I ordered the Walmart hitch above and was excited until I got a call from the boys as they were installing it on the Audi A3 that has a 1 1/4 inch receiver tube and the Walmart hitch is apparently 2 inches. The devil is in the details!! Is there a workaround besides hauling this beast back to Walmart?

Tom, I note in this photo you’re attaching the hold down hook to the bottom by the crank. Any particular reason you’re not hooking over the top frame bar?

I wanted to try the lowest brace point to see if it was still stable. The Step Thru lacks a top frame bar but you can rest on the down tube, or but a cross bar.

So it was stable that low? FWIW, I’m using one of these on our Lowstep, traveled a couple hundred miles and it was totally stable.

I surmise it is an anchor to strap something to. I find it convenient to carry and maneuver the rack. Without it,lifting, positioning, or carrying the rack would be cumbersome.

Stable yes, but...... as a teenage surfer and kayaker, I Lived in perpetual fear that my surf boards or kayaks would fly off my roof rack and cause an accident on the road so I always used additional tie downs and ropes. I still have that same sense of unease whenever towing or strapping something to my vehicle, so I I still take extra precautions.

I use it to lock the bikes to each other and to the rack

I thought my idea of buying of buying PTO pin shafts from Walmart was unique! I did buy the rectangular, though. When using the PTO's it isn't necessarily to tighten the knobs so much

Finally installed my 2" receiver hitch to my BMW X5. Loaded up the two Aventon Level Step Thrus. They fit nice and snug. One bungee cord for my own piece of mind but seemed superfluous. Quick mounting and dismounting of bikes, and the rack folds up nicely. I will replace the plastic wing nuts on the hooks with solid metal wing nuts.
