What isn't $100 these days? Just priced a battery for my 13-year-old Makita drill driver. $92. I paid that for the drill, 2 batteries, and a charger in a nice hard case.

My favorite ever budget tire was $18. $42 during the lockdown and now back down to $27. WTF?

During lockdowns people were anxious in case they couldn't buy necessary goods so they ordered spares as the ports were congested and shipping losses were high and shipping prices skyrocketed. For example, I bought a good sized package of yeast on amazon for $13 simply because there was no yeast in supermarkets for some weeks. After I went to the pickup depot to get that yeast, I happened to stop at a grocery store on the way home and they had yeast on the shelves.

That backlog reached 109 container ships in January of last year, but more recently has dropped below 10. Meanwhile, the cost of shipping a container from China to the United States has fallen below $4,000, compared to last year’s high of around $20,000, according to data from Freightos.

LEPs would be fun, but impractical in most cases.

I'd always prefer a "pencil beam" thrower when I need to see something way over there because they will at least have some usable spill. The only downside, is a thrower that can compete with an LEP on distance, is going to have to have a much larger reflector.

But even a small thrower like a KR1 or Thrunite Catapult Mini will light up stuff much farther away than I can practically see.

I hate zoomable lights because the beams just look bad. But that's a personal opinion. They have their place.
