Yes, solar panels! I think this is an amazing build, but the style seems to be aimed at Europe. Hey why not, right now that's where the big ebike money is.

The models in those pics seem to have only decorative panels but seems that the solar model would have solar panels in the same area. This is supposed to show it but the image links are broken: http://www.leaos.com

Sadly, panels of that size could provide nowhere near enough juice to move you and only a slightly better than a trickle charge for the battery.

Those are the solar panels. That area x2 could easily give you 1/2 to 3/4 amp, standard ebike charger is only 2. I don't think the mfg has any intention to move you with them, just charge the battery whenever the sun shines. Big seller in Europe where wind and solar farms are big.

x2? Are you implying that the sun would shine on both sides of the bike simultaneously?

A reasonable ebike solar setup would need to offer 1/2 to 1 amp at 36 (if not 48) volts, and even then, you'd only be getting a half of a full battery's charge (most ebike batteries take 8-10 hours to charge if provided with 1 amp@36-48v). The solar efficiency has got to be half of the normal 15% conversion efficiency due to the fact that the panels don't articulate to match the angle of the sun.

I don't think this is designed to give you a full charge, it's designed to extend your range. You know like regenerative braking only much better! Solar might actually get you a mile further down the road!
