Insufficient Privileges - Cannot Reply to For Sale forum threads

Apparently this new function was already questioned. I missed it when I searched "privileges," as did the "Has this been discussed before?" function that appears when creating posts...

Maybe could be worded as, "Replies have been disabled in this forum." As is it makes it feel like I did something wrong to lose privileges...

Respondents were trashing "for sale" posts with negative comments and pushing personal agendas. Just not playing nice. EBR mods did what many forums do with for sale threads and limited comments.

It's very easy to simply PM the member selling items.

Yes, it is a safety measure to nurture the community.
There are members who just try to promote one brand without ever contributing to the other aspects of the "community"; they never share their experience or document some technical findings. They use the forum as a promote just one thing and then there are some who will try to muddy someone else's thread.
Recently, there was someone who was trying to sell a very nice BionX bike at a very reasonable price, and one irresponsible member was trying to cause a lot of trouble. What this does is create a hostile environment where newcomers would hesitate to share and slowly EBR would lose its reputation or credibility. So, this new rule would help minimize such situations.

It is good to know what was going on behind this. I did not have a clue. Now I get it. Because I am naturally suspicious of someone selling parted out bikes, I assumed it had been turned over to the authorities to check out, so I lacked credentials. If there is no market for parted out bikes then everyone's bikes are safer in the community. I may have been critical of a BionX but not to the seller of one just the cost/benefit ROI off investing more into to one keep it going because I do have experience with them and the company is out of business.

Chiming in on an old post? Yep I am.
FYI - I've been a member (in the past and no longer) of various collectors forums, such as FPN/Fountain Pen Network and Purse Forum (Purse Blog) where many thousands of members hover on the daily. Same rules apply for selling on those popular forums as well.
