Installing a completely different type of battery on Evelo Compass

The Compass is a trike with space for a pair of batteries. They are 48V/10Ah. I only have one and it really does hamper my range. A second battery would be $800, which seems ridiculous for just 10Ah. I was hoping to install some other kind of battery since I can't source an exactly alternative.

It looks like they're normally the kind you'd slide under an extended bike rack. So they're kind of thin. Each housing has a power switch to toggle the battery. I think the normal idea is to ride one down, turn it off, and then turn on the second one. So I'm shopping on the idea I need to find one like that.

Outside of this, I'm curious what people can think might make this tricky. Like, mounting some different battery to the frame is a problem I'm aware of. But I'm trying to see if I should be worried about interoperability with the existing wiring and the other battery. Are there certain categories of batteries that do or don't work well with each other? Or is each battery model its own snowflake?

My wife's Evelo Compass has dual batteries. She usually uses them the way you suggest, just turning one on at a time. However, both batteries on the dual battery Compass can be turned on at the same time. The management system is supposed to be smart enough to switch automatically when one runs down.
