How would you rate your seat for comfort?

3 1/2 hours. Since covid damage to lungs, my weekly 30 mile commute to summer camp now takes 4 hours. 6 hours if the wind is >20 mph in my face and the motor is rotating mostly backwards. Crossing 2 phase wires makes it rotate backwards the other way. Supply of cheap controllers destroyed by the trade war.
A cloud9 seat cover helps, but it falls off and gets lost frequently.
The seat on my tinturi exercycle is great. It has 2 cm dense foam padding. It has a rectangular post that won't fit any bicycle. NOBODY will sell such a seat that would fit a bicycle with rail mount. Cannot try out actual cloud9 seats; they fit only post mount.

How long, or how many miles can you ride with NO pain, discomfort, or after ride soreness??
Since we've become more intelligent with age, pretty pain free while riding. We are smart enough to stop every 20 minutes or so to hydrate, take a few steps and enjoy the surroundings; typically back riding in under 5 minutes.

The wife and I have used 5 Cloud-9 cruiser saddle (12.5"X11.5) with her two 2019/2023 Radcity Step Thru and my fat tire ebikes (two 2016 Radrover hardtails and 2023 Himiway Cobra Pro full suspension). I like Cloud 9 because we sit more on our "cheeks" compared to being jacked hammered in sensitive taint area with smaller narrow saddles. We can still feel a little soreness if we ride for +25 miles with very minimum breaks.

It is also a combo of other things I added following the advice from folks on this forum over the years that helped:
- longer 400-420mm seatpost stem at 6'3" for me
- I added an adjustable 0-85 degree handle bar stem on my ebikes for a more upright riding position
- use Kinekt Bodyfloat seat post (like it better than the pervious Suntour NCX SP-12 I had)
- always wear padded shorts
- wear Northwave Man MTB bike riding shoe with very stiff soles (regular walking/jogging shoes flexed too much)
- added larger/wider pedals for size 14 shoes

Having crashed a few motorcycles comfort is no longer an option.

but this big thing helps more than most…

my problem is I have the right saddle but it has issues; they wear out in a year as they either get hard or the cover comes off. but I need a seal that is flat end to end and side to side, and I found that but it's a bit wide. so it pushes on the inside of my right thigh and when I get tired, it can really hurt. the selle royal salle that works is a bit wide. but its soft enough. I just ordered what I hope is the same softness version of it but narrower. I have never found another saddle that works.if its not soft enough the pressure on my crotch hurts if it has a back that goes up it pushes me too much in the bars too wide and it rubs the curved top I sit down onto it too far. 86.00 or so a year, sometimes more as the covers have ripped after a few months sometimes. the first one came with my first bike and I had about 8000 miles on it till it got too firm.

Stock seat on a a Trek Verve +3. I’m probably good for two hours tops. The more I ride though the longer I can go. If I ride at least 3 times a week I toughen up some.

I must be doing something wrong, I wrecked my body on bicycles. I've been good so far on motorcycles.
Love your seat. Does that sound kinky?
It does sound a bit odd. I had a gay friend tell me I had a nice backside one time. He did it strictly to get my goat. My wife almost fell over laughing.

I too have beat myself up a bit on bicycles. I find that when a bicycle chucks you down the road it doesn’t throw you down quite as hard or nearly as far down the road as a motorcycle. Also, when off roading, trees come up a lot faster on the motorbike.

my final observation is that when you go over the handlebars on a bicycle and you get stabbed in the side by the pokey bits of the machine whist tumbling along, it does a lot less damage than the motorbike.… the Suzuki for instance left a permanent dent in the side of my chest three ribs wide.

rather spoiled the rest of my summer that one did.

I could say I feel your pain, but, alas, I can only feel my pain. Coming off a motorcycle at speed would truly be a terrifyingly painful experience. You have my sympathy.

I had a competition use 250 Honda Elsinore for a short bit. Sold to me cheap because the owner migrated from southern California/Nevada. The trees up here in western Washington freaked him out. Great bike, you were flying on and off it. Luckily, I missed the trees.
Don't ride offroad motorcycles no more. Ebikes, maybe.

I do think of all the stuff on a bike that might get you when you experience an unexpected dismount. Those cut tails on a zip-tie sure could do a rip.

I use narrow and firm sporty saddles from Specialized. Combined with chamois, these allow me doing extremely long rides without even thinking of my butt :)

Has anyone of you ever thought how Ultra riders can make their 300 mile (or longer) trips? The secret is the proper fit of the bike to the rider's body. As long as the riding position is proper, the body weight is evenly distributed among the arms, legs and the butt. No pain.

My longest single day ride. 8 hours and 20 minutes in the saddle.

My longest ride ever. 12 hours and 16 minutes in the saddle.

I think Bowman tries to convey the message you are only comfortable when laying on a recumbent bike "sofa" but I wonder if he ever rode distances like I did :D
