How to take off rear wheel on Superdelite

I can’t find any videos are other guides on how to remove a rear wheel on this heavy bike. Here’s my guide to how to do it in the field.

SORRY - I HAVE NO IDEA WHY ALL THE PHOTOS ARE UPSIDE DOWN. I UPLOADED THEM IN THE CORRECT ORIENTATION

• Remove everything you can from the bike, even the batteries if necessary
• Carefully, lay you bike down.
• Holding somewhere sensible on the bike, stand the bike up on the handlebars and saddle - use the soft things to protect your handlebars

• Deflate the rear tyre

• Disconnect the electrical cable to the Rohloff hub - when reconnecting line up the white arrows.

• Take out the quick release axel - don’t loose it!

• Ease the wheel a small way out of the frame

• With the tyre deflated move it up and forward to give the belt some slack
• Ease of the best - it can bind to the sprocket so you might need to pry it off very gently

NOTE: When replacing the wheel ensure the chain tensioner spring is still properly attached.


A few things...
It takes me about 10 minutes to take the wheel off and about the same time to replace. However it took me ages to put a new set of Schwalbe Hurricans (E50s) on - they are so tight!

Kool Stop tire bead jack, $12 on Amazon. Makes short work of any tight tire. If you do this regularly, a Park PTS-1 Tire Seating tool ($56) makes it a breeze.

Have bought a bunch of the tyre jacks and often wondered about the PTS-1. All the info show it as a tool to pull racing tyres away from the rim to help them seat, not for MTB tyres that won’t go over the rim at all.

PTS-1 is like a ChannelLock set of pliers, you can slip the handles as far apart as far as you need and then center them in the appropriate groove to use, it has about 7 positions in width, I use it on my Moots
Mx Divide MTB with 29er Enve Rims and WTB Vigilante 2.5 (fat) tyres, which are a mother and a half to get on and off, tubeless so they are *really* tight. I also use them to rip glued on sew
ups off some Campy tubular racing rims, but it is much nore satisfying to slash at those with a butcher knife, as it's about $100 flying out the door per flat..
