HI had intermittent cut out issues my Orbea Gain e bike tookit to Orbea dealer ship and he said it was because the sensor on the rear drop outs was covered in dirt would this be the case if so id be thinking it would be difficult to keep sensor free of dirt given the position of it

Mmmmmmmm, I believe the sensor is magnetic, so dirt???

i had thought because the bike was still in warranty so repair if any would be under the guarantee but he told me it was dirt and did a diagnostic check so bike was fine charging me £30 im not convinced that was just the problem but ill know when i get it on the road again

I've had one of my Gains since March. Never cleaned it, gotta be dirty around the locking ring area where the sensor is. Hope you don't have anymore troube with it?

i had been cycling on a a very loose gritty path so the dirt and grit and built up on the sensor so ill be aware of the possible build up when cycling on similar paths im hoping i dont have any more probs i just love the bike and it does what i want it to do so enjoying my cycle runs without dreading the hills ill also go out a bit more during the Summer as i used to

HI Ally, you're the only person I have come across who's had this issue, except me....just joined the forum. It happened so frequently on my first Gain they took it back, its now happened on my replacement (1 time out of 5 rides so far) did you ever get yours sorted? Cheers Andy

Late I know but only just it. I had the intermittent cut out problem and saw this post. I removed the back wheel and discovered that the magnets were covered in greasy grime. I assume it's a result of me spraying the cassette rings with a degreaser which had splashed the crud onto the magnets. I cleaned the lockring and its now as sweet as.

Hi, This in not an Orbea specific problem. Any electric bike with external sensors of several types have this happen. You might try some auto wax. I find that this prevents dirt from being able to stick and allows for easy cleaning. Many forms of soil and road grime have some iron content. This also can be a problem with rear hub-drives that have external strain-gauge torque sensors.
