My husband wanted an e-bike. I started researching. This website and all Courts wonderful video reviews have been so helpful. I decided on a Voltbike Yukon for him. I pestered him with questions, and tried to get him to do his own researching. The Long and the short of it is I took the plunge and ordered the Yukon. Then I thought, why should he have all the fun and ordered a Mainer step thru for myself. The bikes arrived. He was like a kid in a candy store. He charged the bike and off he went. He arrived back with a huge grin on his face and said “I love it”. I was very relieved LOL. I’m looking forward to rides together this fall.

Way to go JO! You gave me a smile with that story. Volt should put that on their website. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks J.R. I’m feeling a bit smug. It’s the first time in 30 odd years of marriage that he so enthusiastically has said I love it.

Welcome Jo! Great story.

And how are YOU enjoying YOUR bike?

Where abouts is Lefroy? I'm in Montreal.

Congrats Jo. You have almost the same story that I have except we live in Cambridge ON and I did the ebike research not my wife. I bought the same VoltBike Yukon and I bought my wife the Elegant. I absolutely love my bike and my wife is learning to love hers. She rode a class 1 bike when we were in Europe and thought this would be similar but it is a bit more aggressive and she is taking a while to get used to it.

I can understand your husband’s excitement about the Yukon but I am starting to go on longer rides.

Enjoy.

I can understand your how your wife feels. I have to admit I was not prepared for the speed. I am fortunate that this purchase worked out for my husband. In hindsight we should have test ridden some bikes before buying for sure. I ignored some very good information. I won’t do that again. He has been out for some much longer rides. We are off to Ottawa for a few days and he is looking forward to riding there.

Lefroy is just south of Barrie on Lake Simcoe. It’s going to take me a bit longer than my husband to feel comfortable. It’s been a bit of a learning curve for me but I’m determined. I am having a bit of a problem with my balance and I didn’t expect that. The bike it’s self is really great.

So you’ve got quite a trip coming up if you’re going to Ottawa. My girlfriend lives there. It’s an extremely bicycle friendly city. If you use Google Maps turn on the feature to show bike routes.

How are you carrying two e-bikes? They’re pretty heavy and I had a hard time putting mine up onto my rack. Removing the battery first helped.

You must be comfortable but remember that more balance is needed at low speeds than high. Don’t force yourself and with time you will start to feel much more comfortable. If you can master low speed manoeuvres you will be fine at higher speeds. With motorcycles I am a firm believer in practicing at low speed in a parking lot as much as possible every chance I have. Even now, after more than 100,000 km on motorcycles every time I commute with one and arrive in my work parking lot I practice a few low speed figure eights.

Have fun and be safe!

My Daughter lives in Ashton near Carleton Place and my step Daughter in town. My daughters first home was out in the west end across the road from where the park starts along the river. My hubby always took his bike when we visited in the summer. Thanks for the advice it’s very much appreciated.
