Hi Dave, it’s quite different than motorcycling. even with the motor you can get all the exercise you want without using the power. My Aventon is incredibly easy to pedal., but the beauty of taking your bike, you get to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. Rhode Island, especially has some absolutely gorgeous trails that are at least 20 miles long, and some are expanding. The East Bay rail trail along with Narragansett are so breath taking, it’s like something out of a story book. There are 3 different classes of bikes; Class1. Pedelec, you pedal and it can go up to 20mph; Class 2. Throttle only, push the lever and it will go up to 20 mph; Class 3. Pedelec, while pedaling will go up to 28mph and in addition to that is a throttle which will push you up to 20mph. prices vary, so look into what exactly your needs or wants are. There is lots of information on this site to get a good idea, but the only real way to see and understand what your wants or needs, you should go out there to different bike shops and try them out. Some bikes sell for over$10,000. And some under $1,000. Educate yourself first and you’ll have a better idea of what you want. Good luck, Al from Massachusetts.
