Hello from Lake Como!

I just bought my first pedelec, a Gepida ALBOIN SLX 10 Trekking. I'm enjoying the hell out of it. My only quibble thus far is the water bottle holder is small, and I need a good basket or carrying case for the rear rack. I live in Colico, on the north shore of Lake Como where the Adda river comes in. A biker's paradise with the Sentiero Valtellina Path and many routes on the other side of the lake. This might be the best trail in northern Italy! If you're in the area give me a shout and we can do a ride and grab a coffee on the way. https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/7033529/sentiero-valtellina-path-colico-to-tirano

It's insane how beautiful it is here. I found an affordable house up the road from the lake and away from the crowds that gather for festas. It's simply ideal, and so much cheaper than a miserable little place in the States. I feel fortunate. I'm retired and just hanging out here.

I will want a full write up of how to do that!! ;) sadly, retirement is probably 12-15 yrs away...

Ahh, beautiful Lake Como. We took a tour and stayed in Bellagio for a few nights about 20 years ago. I still recall dinner at the Metropole one night where the main course was a small grilled trout, but they left the head on. Some of my squeamish tour group left to find a pizza or pasta, so the rest of us had plenty of trout, and it was good.

In July of 2018 I rode a 8 day cycling tour thru parts of Slovenia, Austria, & Italy, in the Julian Alps. To call Northern Italy stunningly beautiful is an understatement!

My wife and I were told that we simply couldn't move to Italy. Too many hurdles. We lived in Uruguay for two years, a low-bar residency country. After getting residency, we got a green light at the Italian Embassy in Montevideo. Long story short, we got a ITALIAN ELECTIVE RESIDENCE VISA, based on average pension incomes. You can do this from the US or other countries but I've heard it is fairly difficult. My wife speaks Italian, so that's a huge key to my being here, and she knew some people. But yes, I'm getting away with murder here. Don't tell nobody. I retired from state government service at age 59--took the money and ran.
