Hey everybody. I I've in East Tennessee in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I just ordered a new ebike, and it should be here Tuesday. I've had 2 knee replacements, and I'm 65. I thought an ebike would help out. I've been an avid bicyclist forever, but unless it's flat I'm not going to ride my regular bikes much anymore. Instead I'm going to take my ebike. I still hope to get some exercise out of it also. Mostly for fun if im being honest here. Im going to use my PhD in (shop/garage piddling), and perhaps start building some conversions.
U.S. Coast Guard Retired Chief Machinery Technician (MKC), and retired from the College of the redwoods as a Maint Tech III. Totally retired now, and looking forward to learning all I can here.
Cheers! Tom

Welcome to the site & the electric side of the hobby. My Army damaged knees are tempting me to try replacements. In September I took a long dreamed of vacation in to ride steam trains in CO and view Indian ruins in CO & UT. I could only walk about 2/3 mile a site and side slanting rock slopes or steps of 20" high totally defeated me. I can ride the bike 30 miles a day (with electric help).
Your mechanic/electric skills wlll come into use when something wears out and you have to replace it. A big brand assembled bike, you go to the dealer you bought it from. Self conversions as I have done, after some of the first kit wears out, you search and search for something compatible. Components change connections every 18 months or so. I've been through 4 hub motors & 3 controllers in my 9000 miles since conversion.
I live in the flat part of the Ohio valley, and escape to a summer property in the hills 20 miles north to avoid summer ozone and view some flora & fauna. Nutritious food, supplies, internet & freight delivery, natural gas heat are down here in the flat Ohio valley where I spend the cold months.

Thanks for the reply. Wow, I didn't realize how fast things change.
My 1st knee was in 2010, and the 2nd one in 2016. If it wasn't for my bicycles to help wirh rehab I probably would have had a different outcome. 20 years on boats and Cutters moving underneath me all day wore my knees out. My bike is out for delivery, so as you can imagine I'm excited. Thanks for your service Brother.
Get those knees. Rehab sucks, but I can do most of the stuff I want to, except jumping out of the back of my pickup. ;-)>

Finally arrived. Went together ok, except the rear rack, which is a known Bearcat to install. Overall it looks to be of good quality, fit and finish. Put 3.4 miles . Wow! I had no idea what I've been missing. I'm hooked. Feeling like a kid again at 65.
