I am a 50 year old electric vehicle nut with prior bicycle mechanic experience. Last summer I decided to build a mid-drive e bike from an old small 26 inch hard tail hand built titanium frame (Rock Lobster) mountain bike. A Bafang BBSHD, 48v shark battery- WHAM I was hooked. My 14 year old son is using it to commute to school. It is 7 miles and he can get there faster than driving a car. Central Pennsylvania has very vague electric bike regulations.
His twin brother found a sweet repainted Specialized Race frame that we converted to a hybrid style e bike using the same BBSHD, only a 9 speed derailer for longevity. 52v 20ah shark battery since it fits in the frame.
I am now looking for used 1990 era mountain bikes to convert to electric and sell.
