Bosh rep didn't give any reason on why the internal gear failed. I even don't know if they opened the unit. I just been told by the bike shop that they never saw a unit with so many km on it.
As for my ride conditions, I ride year-round with lot of rainy days. Roads are salted in the winter, but snow is rare, I live in the Victoria/Gulf islands area.

Thank you for the answer. The reason why I asked it is, maybe the seals can't deal with the salt/slush and leak hence causing the wear. I wish they have given a more definitive answer (I also read in several places that Bosch updated the internals on/after 2016 I don't know if this is true though).

In terms of the mileage, there are several people in this forum who put more miles on the unit than you did(although one of them has his drive failed recently, I am keeping an eye on that thread to see how the problem will be resolved), they are usually riding in better climates though. On the other hand if the mileage expectation from these units is really <10K then it will never truly be a commuting replacement option for most people.

The Shimano E8000 is a new design where as the BionX is an old design, that's an unfair comparison. I had a BionX DD and it was great, back in the day they were the motor to get. There are millions of Bafang rear hub drives running around the world now that seem pretty reliable. Not taking sides, I actually prefer mid drives but I live in a pretty hilly area.

The majority of STePS bikes we've sold were the oldest model, the E6000. The next largest chunk is the E6100. We've sold very few bikes with the E8000 on it thus far, though that is now starting to change.

Sure BionX is older, but it was higher-end for its day. And it being older is my point anyway. We've moved on to something newer and we've had the best experience with it yet. We continue to monitor the market for anything new, as we'd hate to miss a market shift and be left with the wrong inventory.

There's no "side" here. If my customers and staff were crying out for some exciting hub motor bike, I'd be all over bringing it in and seeing how it is. But we aren't seeing that product on the market right now.

Q- What Speed pedelecs (28mph ) come with Shimano Steps 8000 ? That’s the most powerful version of the Steps system right ? I didn’t knew that they are so reliable.

Yes, STePS E8000 is the most powerful current motor. My comment was about Shimano motors in general, but the only one I specified in my post was the E6000. The overwhelming majority of bikes we've sold came with E6000 or E6100 motors. We've also sold some E5000 and E8000, but the E6x00-series is over 90% of what we've sold from Shimano.

Shimano doesn't make speed pedelecs. Though that hasn't stopped people from derestricting them. The E8000 is the king of tuning, as with the right software you can individually tune every level of assist to different top speeds (as well as different max wattages, percentages of assist, max torque, etc.). But no Shimano bike is sold that way, as Shimano only officially supports 25-32 km/h.

You don't offer any backup/citation for your claim that mid-drives aren't designed for high mileage @ high speed. What has you say that?

I have 27,000 miles on my Bosch Mid-drive and my average speed is 16-17 mph over all those miles. No motor problems but I do replace chains and brake pads every few thousand miles.

Dapu geared hub might work.
You may also want to check out OHM cycles, as they still have BionX motors and batteries and you might be able to get one for really cheap.
I know of someone who has put 30,000 miles on his BionX D series motor and still working fine...
