Use the AWG rating to determine if appropriate. But it’s easier to create a short if you confuse Neg and Pos leads.

Solid copper (of any guage) does not work out well when it comes to the flexing required in an environment that's constantly in motion. That's the reason it's not used in cars, boats, airplanes, motorcycles - and e-bikes.

Multi strand silicone shrouded is best. Great point!
