Haibike 7 rear wheel removal

Hi ...I.ve a Haibike Trekking 7. There seems to be a bizarre wheel axle locking system. I cant get the rear wheel off to change my tire. There is a funny tool that came with the bike but i cant work out how to use it. No instructions anywhere.
Any ideas?

My Trekking 9 is just a thru axle with a little handle on the end. You pull out the handle and ratchet it out of the way of the rack and fender stays. Push it back in to engage and then turn counter clockwise(I think?) to loosen until the threads on the drivetrain side are no longer holding it it.

Hi ...thnks for your reply. I.ve got an odd tool which i dont know how to use ...see pic.
The rear axle ...i dont know the specs cant find them anywhere ...i.d like to replace ...think it s a 12 x 142mm ...can i use and use any from another manufacturer?

Hello - just joined the forum and have a Haibike Trekking 5. I was about to go on my first long trip and realised that I had no idea how to remove the rear wheel as per Fungustoon post for the trekking 7. I have the the exact same rear axle arrangement as shown in the Fungustoon attachments and I also have the funny shaped tool. Can anyone help us with how to remove the rear wheel in the case of a puncture, tyre or tube replacement on these trekking bikes.

Hi Bobtec ...that tool just allows you to get more torque on the thru axle.s 6mm(5mm) socket ie get it turning. I had a puncture ...loosed it with the tool , then just used an allen key to undo it properly. It was easy! Carry a decent sized allen key ...not the usual short ones where you cant get much torque on the 6mm 'hole'. I bought another ' special tool' for a spare. Any generic 6mm(5mm) one will do.

Hello Fungustoon - I dropped into bike shop the other day and they tried to undo the axle on the chain side which has a "close" arrow and is marked 20Nm. But the guy said it was so tight he was scarred of stripping the allen key part. So I still haven't solved the problem. Also he said he didn't know which way to turn it as the "Close" arrow points counter clockwise which is the usual direction for undoing nuts but close suggests its the direction to do them up. Can you tell me exactly what you did to get the axle out.

Bob ...Sorry mate, i.m away on hols for 2 weeks. I cant remember but I.m pretty sure I would have gone ' lefty loosey' and ' right tighty' ...I only know one thing goes the other, wrong way -one of my pedals!!
I dont believe for one second Haibike will go against the industry norm on the turn direction. A quick check on youtube ...every bike with allen key method ...it follows the usual rule. Why not squirt some loosening oil into the hole, leave it overnight and try ...'lefty loosey' for me.
Defo use that little tool ...to ' crack the turn to the left' then use a larger allen key.

I faced this same problem with haibike trekking trapez 4. I tried to open it from the side that said 20nM and close with an Allen key and it did not work. I took it to an ebike repair shop and they fixed it in a minute: you are not supposed to open it from that side that has the 20nM and close text! There was no need for any special tools. They just opened the bolt from the other side and I felt dumb . They used a standard allen key.

I seriously doubt they put torque '20 nms' and the word 'close' if they expect u to work on the other side! I can assure you my method works. Ps the bike came with little tool as standard. Yours might be a different set up ...photos? Cheers

You always unscrew any thru-axle from the non-drive (left) side of the bike with an Allen key, a later torque it at some 10-15 Nm. You never access the axle from the drive (right) side. The markings "20 Nm" and "Close" must be for something else and are confusing. (The other side is just a thread for the thru-axle).

Good that you people have already figured it out.

NB: Some more expensive thru-axles have a Quick Release lever on the non-drive side for fast wheel removal without any tools.

Stefan ...could I have damaged my bike by working on the lhs? It couldnt be some lockech to stop thieves? I read somewhere it might be ...but then thought that was wrong. Will have to have a look. Away at the mo.

I do not know whether you had anything such as HexLock inside the axle socket. If you had, the special tool could be meant to remove the HexLock first. But I never have had a HexLock so idk.

Hi Stefan ...that s what i think i ve got. Haibike are utterly useless in customer service.
