DEET is not very effective at repelling ticks. Permethrin is much better, no comparison really.

I wouldn’t recommend burning ticks at all.

There’s a quite effective, simple and reusable tick remover called a “Tick Tornado.” I got mine at Walmart. They include two sizes, one for smaller ticks, one for larger They are well worth the couple dollar investment.

I agree with BrianK’s tick tornado; we us a similar one called Tick Twister - same principle.

I’ve successfully removed ticks from our Cairn Terrier but needed to use it on myself while riding the Bearskin Trail in Minocqua, WI. The tick came out alive; I saved it in a ziplock bag in case I got sick. Three weeks and no symptoms so fingers crossed.

That’s a great concept but it doesn’t appear to the available in America.
