Finally got my replacement wheel from Nextie. They didn’t like the design of the original wheel so they redesigned it and sent me a new wheel for free. Still uses a DT Swiss 350 hub but it looks beefier and much stronger vs the first wheel. Check out the pics. Old wheel has the tire on it. New one does not. Really please with their service and they now have me as a customer for life. Got to get everything switched over to the new wheel and then get the mags back on the bike!

Last pic shows how I mounted the magnet to the wheel for the speed sensor. Isn’t pretty but it works perfectly. Really can’t see it unless you look closely at the wheel.

@Deacon Blues I have 2 Nextie's - 29" x 46mm & 26" x 90mm. Rims for the 29s had an extra layup which added 30g and they were 498g & 501g so pretty much right on the money for the product page. They came with little tags showing the roundness, flatness, and weight. Th 26" rims took a little longer to get to me and they goofed a part of the address so I had to go into the post office to pick it up, but no sweat. They ship by air but my package was sitting at the airport waiting on a plane for a few weeks. Those fat rims were 542.6g & 574.2g which was a little more variance than the other set - neither had spoke access holes in them so I had to use a magnet and spoke end to fish the nipples into place when building the rims, Nextie will do this for you for $20 + cost of nipples. I used Sapim CX-Rays (286mm for 29" 242mm for 26") ordered from Belgium @ under $2 a piece & 12mm brass Polyax nipples, without the cassette or brake rotor the 29" wheels were 960g/1180g F/R & the 26" set were 1009g/1194g F/R. I'm using Onyx FAT hubs up front (150x15mm) and Fatback rears with a steel Shimano HG freehub. Using aluminum nipples would have saved me 20g per wheel. The Onyx front hubs are considerably heavier than a DT Swiss Big Ride front (278g vs ~200g) but they're sexy and made in the US to order, and have lower RR, larger bearings. I grabbed the Fatback rear hubs because they're cheap ($99 a piece shipped) and symmetrical, and my intention was to add on the Kindernay hub later on. Now those dreams are dashed. Had I known I'd go through that misfortune I'd have probably grabbed the Sunringle rears or sprung for the Onyx ones since I ordered symmetrical rims and for the sake of building (and OCD) I want symmetrical hubs, which the DT Swiss rears are not.

Side note about my experience with Nextie with my fat rim order:
I had learned the shipping address was incomplete only at the last leg, and the post office was closed by the time I had spoken to CS; they had warned me to go in first thing Monday to see if they had the package become while they usually hold up to 2 weeks before returning to sender, some locations were so busy that it could be as little as 24 hours from being returned to the location from being out for delivery. I emailed Alice at Nextie about the situation and just asked if they had any power as the sender to order a hold or amend the address with the missing character to prevent them from being returned in the event that might have happened over the weekend before I could go in on Monday - or what should be done in this situation if it was sent back (I was more worried about waiting another few weeks for them to have airline space like before) - she refunded the $98 shipping and checked in with me that I was able to get them as by this time it was Monday and I had picked them up first thing in the morning, so the tracking info showed them as picked up. When I got back home and opened the box I saw they had even tossed in a hat with the rims that I definitely wasn't charged for - not that I'm a ballcap kinda guy but it's a nicer one with a fabric backstrap and little belt claspy thing that lets you adjust it to wherever without any snaps or holes. Both times dealing with Nextie I've been pretty happy with the product & the service, so they've secured a return customer in me as well - glad to see they treat Vinny well too!

@Cuz Vinny I designed a little magnet plug for my Magura rotors & a hanger for the Bafang speed sensor that requires a slightly longer axle (I get mine from Robert Axle Project) to keep magnets off the spokes and everythign a little cleaner. Waiting for the printer to send me the hanger so I can test fit, but if it works well I could potentially change the design a bit to be frame-ambiguous and upload the file for those interested.

I’m thinking of something that slides over the valve stem and then use the little gold nut to hold it in place.

The valve stem wouldn't be a bad idea if you can get the magnet offset to the side far enough and mount the sensor further up the stay on the rear triangle. My frame has a mount for a spoke magnet sensor (I think the Hydra does as well?) but no way to mount it closer to where the valve stem is. I'm using 60mm stems on the fat rims which give plenty of meat to throw some plastic magnet holder and an extra nut. Me wanting to take a wack at the rotor magnet placement is mostly down to clean looks and less grief when changing out the fat tires. I don't think the regular spoke sensor setup would interfere with the 29+ set but the wider fat set concerned me. One thing I'm unsure about is the magnets - I just grabbed two different sizes or fairly strong magnets and hope the small circle it'll travel will still allow the sensor to know when it passes by instead of just always showing the magnet is near. If not smaller magnets are under $1 so no worries on that part.

It'd be cool if Nextie included a little spot for the magnet on one of the tri-spokes but I doubt every frame has the same placement, there'd have to be a little plastic piece holding the magnet that you could use to offset it as needed. One thing that kind of bums me out is the Magura rotors only have 1 magnet hole, if you could put 3 in and change settings in the controller for 3 speed sensor magnets you'd get a much more accurate/responsive speed reading; with a single magnet on the 29+ set it only updates once every ~8.24 feet, which I guess isn't that bad if you're going fast

I like those rims very much! They would also be nice on a UC IMHO as a UC owner, a great option from WW ?
