Hello from San Diego! I just bought a giant quick e, totally not what I expected. It’s my first ebike so maybe I’m just not doing it right. In the past I have cycled road and still occasionally a mountain bike. But I bought an ebike so I don’t have to sit in traffic. Maybe I need to take some shifting lessons. :)

Welcome to the site.
Take a look at the brand specific forums and maybe somebody has experience on your model.

You do have to let off on the pedals when you shift or it will be pretty harsh. You really don't want to shift when the motor is pulling full force.
Let off, shift, pedal again.
It has cadence and torque sensing, so very transparent in it's assist. I love my explore+3. It does really drop off about 19. I may need to do something about that. ;)
