Forum Alerts - Not getting them

This might not be the correct place to post this, but I'm not getting alerts. I've been on this forum for a while, I haven't changed my settings, I have checked. It started where I got some alerts and didn't get others. I don't use email alerts, I rely on the alerts one gets when logging in. Today I had zero alerts even though several threads I had contributed to had new posts. Those are watched threads, I did check. It might not seem like a big deal, but I, like most of us, am primarily here to learn and help. I don't like the idea that someone might be addressing me and they think I've ignored them. It could be a new member in need of information. The alert issue has been going on for a long time, today was the first time it was zero alerts when it should have been several.

Has anyone else had this issue?

I have noticed that as well for a long while now.
Since my knowledge is very limited I have been under the impression that my low contribution was the result of not getting the notifications, if that makes any sense.

I don’t know how alerts work.
It should be reported to the powers that be. It's an issue that will negatively impact peoples experience here, especially newcomers needing help.

Logging on just now I did not have an alert for this thread I created. This is a marked "watched" thread.

Does that mean you don’t see the little red number on the alerts tab, telling you how many new updates on threads have been added…? Or, even without seeing the red number, when you click the red tab, the drop-down is also completely empty?

Both. I don't have the red number or listed alert. There's no rhyme or reason. Your post gave me an alert. You can "view all" alerts from that dropdown menu. The posts above made after I logged out last night didn't give me an alert this morning when I logged in. I reported this to Ann M. last summer, it has not gotten better.

Most of my alerts show up but not all. I noticed there can be quite a time delay depending on your client email server. I generally check the alerts on the site using the "Show All" option rather than rely on email reporting. Some are still missed though even doing it this way.

As a cross check, I visit the "What's New" section. I review headers for threads that I've contributed to or read (not shown in bold type). This can be time consuming though and it would be a lot more convenient if the alerts worked properly.

I have yet to find a free access forum that uses volunteer moderators to run flawlessly.

On my iPhone I have to login almost every time although I use the remember me feature as well as not being alerted to all new entries in posts I have started or contributed to.

If Court starts reviewing Rimacs and charging a fee here I will have to re-evaluate my status but until then I can cope with the minor malfunctions.

That's true too. I know for sure Court wants the mods and webmaster to know about these issues. It isn't a complaint, it's information in an effort to help. An unknown can't be fixed.

for some reason or another, the alerts have been going to my junk email. I didnt check to see if I received all of them but a chunk of them were redirected. it's a hotmail address...I know know, I have no shame.

It's really easy to check what alerts are gotten against the list of watched threads. Nothing to do with email. Anyone can see their own lists here on the forum. I won't go through posting screen shots. I thought it was only important for trying to help people in need.
