first electric bike

Because of where I live, with palm trees and redwoods, and my equipment, I was able to sell my car 01/21/2018 and use bikes everywhere, everyday. For longer distances I put a bike on a train. Today I rode to my favorite restaurant then helped with a bike path signage project we have funding for. French lunch was free because I fixed the chef's daughter's bike after two botched jobs at shops. We have been doing First Friday (of the month) group rides for five-years. They have grown each year but have plateaued because they launched a five PM and people work and kids are hungry. It was mostly retired people. Tonight will be the first one at 6:00 and from a place with a super safe route. Some will ride ahead to block intersections in yellow vests and 20,000 parents of grade schoolers were notified. We also cut the distance in half for the kids. We will do that all Summer. Yes, that chrome bike has the motor between the pedals. It is called a D8i because of the Nexus Eight Internal hub. I sometimes ride a three-speed with a coaster brake, which is unusual for an Ebike. That one has similar lines and was handmade in Europe with silver solder. Those do not sell in the States. I bought it it for $320 and at a shop in Montreal they want $1,300 for the acoustic starter bike but will not ship. The owner lived on a hill in San Francisco and could never ride it, he only attempted one ride, so after some years he advertised it. No takers because no one knew what it was. I said that if you can't sell it for several months, here is my standing offer and call me. He took the ferry to Marin and I took the train down to buy it. That was my second bike exactly like it. Clue: See the wire from the battery to the motor?

You do have a taste for the exotic . I was aware of frames being brazed , but never silver shouldered . Simple and clean seem to be the watch words. How many rides do you have ? You have bikes a way of life . Kudos

I currently am down to six bikes; a town bike; a mountain bike, a three-speed, a gravel bike, and a drop bar bikepacking bike. In my town it takes about one-half-hour to cross town in a car, plus there is finding parking and walking from parking, so 40 minutes door-to-door. Because of cross-town bike paths with no signals, the same trip takes for me 12 minutes door-to-door and I get to see friends and birds. Yesterday I saw two snowy egrets chowing down on fish as the tide started to fill the upper river. A raven attacking swallow's nestlings. And a peregrine take a pigeon. Plus six grazing goslings. That is just on one 2.5 mile trip to drop off a treated bike chain. I arrive relaxed and refreshed, instead of angry at the jerk ahead of me, after waiting at 15 backed-up red lights with no place to park.

@Gorden,
Bikes have come a long way in 12-years. I am programing a system right now. If you are interested to see what can be programed through the display. Go here and hit download manual. It is astounding what can be done to dial-in a custom bike.

It is very nice and clean. Try as I might , I do not see the motor . Perhaps hidden by the front sprocket . The rear hub brings to mind the Strumy Archer three speeds from the fifties , but I imagine something more sophisticated . Your description of this bike is very much what I thought of , looking at the Prospero picture you sent earlier. A gentleman's bike . Do you ride every day as part of an exercise program , or just when you feel like it , for the fun of it . Ride on .
think I am going to trade my new trike for an orange or fluorescent green "townie" I like the way those bikes sit.

Upright and comfortable. Casual.

I was on the train when a man sat near me.

Man: There are so many psychopaths around here.

Me: Really?

Man: Looking around, Yah, Tons!

Me: How do you know.

Man: There are signs.

Uneasy silence for 45 min.

The man gets off the train with his bike.

Then, I realized he said cycle paths.
