Hello. I am new here, I would like to know if anyone has had the problem with error messages? I have been going down our hill in LAKETAPPS parkway e auburn,wa.When i come up the hill it is about 291 feet going up a steep hill for about 20 mins,and the my bike stops with error message 13,and 15 at times trying to get up hill. I turn off display then turn it back on 15 sec it stops again with same error messages with the (!) flashing and error. This hill is very long and steep. It is very hard to push and hill so steep i cant go down it without having husband pick me up before coming home. Takes the fun out of riding it i cant rely on my bike alone. Any help would make the day worth riding it again. Thanks everyone.

Shelly, it's best to identify the name and model of the bike, along with the specific ebike drive system. Looking on line at the BH Emotion pdf, a 13 error is a communication failure and a 15 is a misadjusted sensor (spoke sensor?) that requires adjustement to better cross the frame mounted sensor. Problem is, without that info as to what your bike and drive system is, it's just a shot in the dark.

A 2015 BH Easy Motion is an Evo with a Dapu geared hub drive. They use sensors inside the hub for speed and a rear dropout TMM4 torque sensor.

The errors could be from dirty connectors. There are many on the bike. Barrel connectors at the handlebar for display and throttle. Brake cutoffs at the handlebars. Motor connector at the chain stay. And the torque sensor itself can be dirty, in need of cleaning. CRC electronic contact cleaner can be used for all these. Remove the battery before cleaning. Follow directions on the can.

Worse case scenario the controller may need to be replaced if you cannot clear the sensor error. I agree with Mike that more information would be helpful.
 
Thank you so much Mike and J.R.for you help. My husband has been trying to find the name of the drive system. Can not find it on all my papers when i bought it.I have the model name. And it is BH-EASYMOTION .MAKE 2015. I have in one of my owners manuel says in English 14764: City and trekking bicycles safety requirements and test methods. Other than that i am not sure what or were to find the drive system,{True Blond here lolol). I have had a new Display replaced.I took it into a bike shop to have my brake fluid filled. I take good care of it .But comeing up this hill is the only way home and that is very disappointing for me.I know it is so heavy to push up hill.So just trying on my own to learn to fix minor if i can. But not knowing some bike shops.May just want to charge me a big amount when it may not need it.With you lived closer I could hire one of you smart men.lolol Thank you again for your help

Does your bike motor look like this?


My 2015 Easymotion Evo would behave similar when overheating from a long, steep climb (let's say 150m climb in under a km).

It would go away when I gave the bike five minutes to cool down and reset the computer. That's a warning the motor isn't happy though, and many here would probably advise against putting the motor under that sort of strain if you can avoid it. Perhaps take the hill more gradually, weave up or take an alternate route if there was one available.

It might still be worth taking it to your dealer and getting their opinion, as much of a hassle as that might be. Unless they're BH specialists they might not be able to do much though - the motors are enclosed units that require specialised tools and know how to repair. If it's more serious then BH may be able to help directly.

Hello pmcdonald,thank you for your help And that is an beautifull pic of the motor.That is exactly what it looks like and that is it.Here is a pic of my bike.I think your right about over heating,Plus my weight with it"s weight is alot for the motor.I do let it set for a few mins.Then startup again.and the hill to come home is along ways.Not sure how to tell you how steep it is ,But it takes about 45 mins to get up it if bike does not die on me.But i really think your right though.I had to get my fluid back into my brakes,That takes alot of breaking going down the hill.I use the back brackes the front brakes and both to try to save on them.I will have to check with dealer by me to see how much for them to check the motor.Sometimes it seems something maybe rubbing .And when i do peddle asst.It seems to pull alittle then let go.Kinda a puzzle.I am taking my saddle bags off and see if that helps.I only have cable&locks to locke it up.All you men with good advice sure helps with my questions about it.Thank you so much.

Even on my mid-drive Haibike, the trick to going up hill, with an eye towards battery power economy, is to lightly spin the pedals.

And this is done by gearing down to the appropriate front chain ring to the smaller sprockets as well as shifting to the biggest rear gear you have. Think light pressure on the pedals. If you have a motor output meter, like I do with my Yamaha e-drive, you can actually watch how much power is being put out by the motor as the power meter pegs out. When I am going upgrade or uphill, I know I am maximizing the power output to be it's most efficient when those power meter bars are at 4 bars or less. Pegged out; well, this is where maximum motor watts from the battery to the motor are giving way to heat in the motor, shutting it down when it overheats.

I'd not worry about losing the pannier bags; it's good to carry the required gear you may need to repair a flat or carry home some groceries, etc.

Instead, focus on downshifting to a small front crank sprocket and large rear cassette sprocket and spin lightly as you can; within what your particular drive gear ratios will allow you.

Also, for maximum mileage and overall efficiency, take a look at the maximum air pressure allowed for those tires and air up to within 5 psi of that max allowance. (this pressure rating will be stamped on the tire's sidewall) Low tire pressures result in more watt/hrs output required to roll those tires.
