eBike sales a "bright spot" this year

So I noticed a speed pedelec police version of the Powerfly at an LBS. In discussion with an employee I learned they are getting some significant orders from some local police departments. And they had pitches/proposals out or planned with some other police agencies. A different LBS told me they recently had a significant order (not Trek) from a major corporation not related to the bike industry. I'm just wondering if this is signaling an e-bike boom wherein municipal agencies and private sector businesses start adopting e-bikes. And that increased visibility created will perhaps fuel a boom with the end consumer? I mean when you start seeing cops on e-bikes in crowded areas like urban downtowns and university districts they are going to attract attention. Maybe this is common in other parts of the country but I think cops on e-bikes will be a new sight in my area. What do you think? Are we on the cusp of an e-bike boom in this country? Are you hearing of police agencies and private sector businesses starting to widely adopt e-bikes (outside of NYC I mean)?

E bikes make a lot of sense for Police Departments, delivery services, large area access etc.. Google put 500 Turbo X's on Campus last year. How long before they sell those off and move in the Vado's? E bikes will eventually become a part of the equation here and efforts like these that get a lot of them in circulation will do nothing but help to raise overall awareness of their attributes.

In the meantime people seem to be focusing lot's of negativity at the e mtb sector which will not help spread the good word. But will eventually work itself out as more people become comfortable with their presence in the marketplace and out and about.

Interesting comment from Bicycle Retailer.....

According to the article, suppliers shipped 12,000 ebikes through May of 2017. Is that the US market ? If so, that's tracking around 30,000 units for the year. That's terrible ! I was hearing US market was over 150,000 units per year. Unless the rest of that is kits or imports from China direct ?
