Ebike Companies with at least 20.000miles or 3 years warranty for the Electronics (Battery/Motor/Controller/Cables)

I must be missing something. We often hear from riders of budget bikes not able to find many direct replacement parts. I experienced this doing support as well.

Astute builders like HarryS yourself and others have a wealth of experience and expertise but many of us want to ride and not struggle to source parts. I guess I’m just not a positive as you. But as always respectful of your views!
Thomas, guys struggling to repair their own bikes ARE lacking experience, are many times short on confidence (and maybe a little patience). I would encourage them to take the time to figure out what the problem is, and ask a LOT of questions if necessary. If they stay at it long enough, that experience level builds at an exponential rate (as well as their confidence) - and includes the ability to source parts. Google is about the best there is (you know that!), but you need to be careful making sure both you and the supplier are on the same page when talking about a part in question. Fire off an e-mail if you need to.

Speaking on a personal level, but pretty sure Harry will agree, I'll answer pages of questions with pages of help - IF - I think somebody is trying. I think many of us have seen you doing the same thing....

Bottom line though, you need to be willing to get your hands dirty. For some that's an issue. In my mind, that's what warranty is for.....

Nobody is offering the first option. U may corner the market if u can build an ebike company offering that.
I'm betting many might disagree on that point, as "quality built" is pretty subjective. To me "quality built" is a bike built from name brand parts. Parts that are serviceable. Examples might be Shimano, Sram, Bafang, and many other recognizable brand names.

vanMoof S3 has a three year warranty on everything. regrettably, I’ve had to use it many times, and they’ve always fixed it with nothing owed, multiple times. they also offer maintenance plans and theft insurance, just like cars. r+m give 5 years on the frame and 2 years on the battery. stormer goes 10 and 2.

Let's add Specialized/Trek lifetime for frame and 2 years for battery/motor and that's the best we've got...

Again , it seems that Yamaha comes out on top with their 3year warranty for battery/motor.

Also IT should be in miles not years. What if someone takes a long vaca off the ebike ?? With the computer display now they can easily track the mileage down .
10.000 or 20.000 miles ?

Note: Specialized has 2years or 300cycles on the battery

With the electric components like the motor /battery /cables/ controller those from the brand names , most of them are NOT serviceable and also not interchangeable ; you cannot even buy motor parts for the Shimono motors , Bafang lately does the same thing for some motors. Likely it is the same for Yamaha motors and Bosch .

What are we gonna do with a perfectly rideable ebike that has a brand name motor/battery issue that it's out of warranty ??

I was just looking earlier for a good deal on a new entry level Ydx . Wanted to get the Sondors Rockstar (35mph top speed/1006wh bat.) but only 1year warranty .
That's a lot better than the 30 days they started out with on their first fat bike.

You do bring up a good point. Shimano shifters, derailleurs and brakes ARE servicable/replaceable by everyday Joes like me and many other owner/mechanics. Because Shimano, Bosch, and Yamaha drives are serviced as dealer only, I don't consider them as non proprietary. Just the opposite really, they're about as proprietary as you can get. If those drives are supported by unique batteries, those are considered proprietary as well.

If a Bafang hub drive goes out on you, or most batteries used with them, they ARE available on the aftermarket at relatively realistic prices.

If a controller goes south, there are the KT controllers available from many sources, and they are competitively priced. Unfortunately, these are going to require some serious DIY skills, or some sort of electrical background. I would list the KT as a "universal" replacement that's going to need to be adapted to the application, and the difficulty of that adaption is going to vary. Even so, the bike is not doomed for the scrap pile because there is nothing available...

not sure how yamaha 3 years for battery/motor is on top of vanmoof 3 years for everything! unless you're factoring in that yamaha is inherently more reliable LOL.

so, we have a range from 1 to 3 years for motor, battery, and other bike components, with a range from 2 years to lifetime for the frame. lots of choices...

I recall Zen is hoping to offer 3-5 years on battery.

I have over 10,000km on my Trek since the middle of 2020, and it’s still going strong. I haven’t had to approach Trek with a warranty issue. Hoping the battery and engine hold up for a while as well as they have so far. I have equipped myself to deal with any issues from the chain, cassette, brakes, pedals, tires, derailleur, etc on the trail or in my shop.

Warranties work. Hyundai/ Kia didn't get so big so fast with just a decent product. I believe their warranty played a big roll in propelling them to where they now are.

Walmart's 120 day return policy is good.

Huffy's description and website list different warranty terms than the bike's manual which doesn't inspire confidence:
For how long does this Limited Warranty last?
...
• The frame is warranted for life except aluminum frames which are warranted for ten (10) years, from the date of purchase.
• The fork is warranted for life except for shock forks which are warranted one (1) year from date of purchase.
• Drive Battery - 2 years.
• Electronics - 90 days
• All other Components - 6 months
