Disc Compatible - Race

I suspect I am asking a stupid question but would like to confirm that the BH motor/hub as fitted to the Emotion Race is disc compatible. I did have a quick look at one in a shop Friday and noticed it had disc compatible front fork but didn't check the motor.

If I was to go down the path of a Race (over a Carbon or a Cross) I would like to be able to upgrade it to Avid BB7 disc brakes.

I assume I will have to stick with the OEM brake levers due to being e-Bike specific but otherwise it should be a standard install if the motor is disc compatible.

Sound right?

The Race is disc brake compatible. The frame has the mounts and the motor can accept a rotor, you will need to swap out the front hub or the whole wheel though as it doesn't have the disc mounts. I was just looking at the one in our shop and thinking about doing it. You could also use the Tektro levers with the BB7 brakes, that's what Currie has on many of their new bikes, Tektro mechanical ebike levers with Avid BB5 brakes. I'm a big fan of the brakes the Easy Motion come with though. We actually have a custom order in with Tektro for a couple of size runs in all of their hydraulic disc ebike brakes which should be here in the next week or so, they're kind of hard to come by otherwise. Thanks Chris. My plan was to fit a disc compatible dynamo anyway to the front hub swap will happen anyway so that part was easy. I guess if I go the Carbon way I will be pretty much setup discs, otherwise I will probably go mechanical.

How critical are having e-bike compatible levers? I am a fan of Avid levers but if the Tektro levers are good happy to stay with them and save a $ or two.

You'll definitely want ebike levers, you'll use them to control the power on the bike as you could end up wearing down your power and brakes quickly otherwise. I'm not sure if you've test ridden the bike, but i think you'll know what I mean when you ride the bike. Sometimes you have to ride the brake a bit when in pedal assist mode and usually it's only to turn the motor off and the pads don't even hit the rotor.

Not ridden yet, two maybe three weeks before back on a bike ... so all research and more research at the moment.
