Derailleur Guard

Has anyone added a derailleur guard to a Juiced Bike? Are they worth it? What will fit our bikes? Thanks for your thoughts.

Yeh, Court seems to be hot about having one in all his reviews. Plan on taking the bikes (RCS) on camping trips late summer and wondered if they would protect the derailleur during transport.

Personally, in 40 years I have never bent a derailleur or hanger, so I have not needed a derailleur guard. They are somewhat commonly found on cheap kids bikes. Maybe because the guards themselves are made cheaply, but in my experience they get bent too and interfere with the derailleur, and/or the derailleur gets bent regardless. If you're concerned, another option is to switch over to a Shimano derailleur with the Shadow design. Shadow derailleurs don't stick out as much as traditional slant-parallelogram designs.

I use one on my grocery bike, both on the derailleur and the hub wires. Parking in public bike racks means my hauler gets banged into. It really helped.

Some think, "That device will transfer the impact forces to the frame dropout".
That would concern me with some alloy frames.
