Dehawk Dorado+ Discharge Rate

Hi,

I have a Moscow+ that's a little more than a year old. I got it with the 16Ah battery. I'm planning on getting a second bike with a Bafang Ultra that uses the same Dorado battery type but the controller is rated at, I believe, 30A, although it might be limited to 25A. The new bike comes with a battery, so I'll have one that is surely rated for to work with the controller/motor, but I'm looking to see if anyone knows if the battery that came with the Moscow+ can also be used in the new bike with the higher Ah controller/motor? I'm pretty sure the battery that came with the Moscow uses Panasonic cells, but I'm not sure the exact battery model so I a having trouble figuring out the max discharge rate. Thanks!

Hmm? I don´t know, but when I had to fix the rim on my moscow,(which i broke), I put on the spare
1000w motor wheel from Calibike with no ill effects, display still worked well. I had whomped a
chuck hole that completely tore the nipple out of the rim. luckily I had some small grommets which
i mashed together with J.B. Weld, inserted a nipple, & generously glued into placed. Inserting the
spoke, i tightened it down, & gave it 24 hrs. to cure. The wheel I initially thought was a write-off now
works just fine & has survived others potholes. What luck! the Cali wheel was a bit large for the stays,
& was off center. it would never have worked for long as a replacement.

Assuming the battery management system is good (and I have no reason to suspect otherwise), it will have a maximum discharge rate that should be appropriate for the battery specs. You should be able to safely "try"using it and if it works then great. But if you are exceeding the maximum discharge of the BMS it may cut out on you. A test would be to try are to find a really long steep hill and try throttle only (or minimal pedaling) and see if you can exceed what the BMS will deliver, the motor should cut out if you exceed the max. If you can make the motor cut out, the battery might still be useful but avoid scenarios where you are causing it to cut out, just to preserve bms/battery life

I feel the NCM batteries are only good for 20A not 30A but I don't have a spec sheet that says 20A. 20A would also work for John's scenario. A 1000W motor would only need 20A except it might surge past 20A briefly in tough climbs.

I have 4 dorado type batteries, 21ah, 2- 13ah, & an 8ah. 2 are from a different bike, different lengths,
but when clamped* in, they all work just fine on my moscow, no display or other issues.
*( i place a piece of 60 grit sandpaper in the channel & clamp the shorter batteries in place with a 6¨ dia.
hose clamp.) The 8ah makes a good interim batt. as it will charge during a 2 hr. lunch break. Travelling
with all 4, ( & a small traller), my range theoretically is at least 120 mi. though I´ve never tried that.
If I get a couple 150w solar panels, I´d have infinite range. As for my stock 13ah. I´m currently getting
up to 45 mi.with no problem at all on steep, very long hills. The 13ah actually seems to have better range
than the 21ah which is more than 2 pd. heavier. Now that I´ve learned to make the best use of gears &
modes, I´m drawing little or no power a good deal of the time.

OMG John, I knew you had a couple batteries but I had no idea you were a collector, lol! I'm envious! That trick for the shorter batteries will go into the vault too in case I see the shorter ones anywhere at a bargain.

I am just about to have a 4th battery but my son and I share them across two bikes. On the note about a 8ah if I had my time back what I would have done is when I ordered a 16ah spare battery from Leon I would instead have ordered the small 36v 10ah seatpost battery and left it mounted on my bike all the time as a reserve to quench my range anxiety. I'd be able to limp home under lower voltage/torque from quite a distance I think. I'd have then ordered the 25ah battery I have coming from Aijiu and assuming it's a good battery when it arrives (TBD) then I'd have spent pretty close to the same money but had more range for it. But oh well, I couldn't predict what was ahead so no reason to loose sleep. I love the spare 16ah battery now, it relieves my range anxiety and has been helpful on long trips already, I can't wait for the 25ah I am sure many riders could get a lot more but I'm expecting a bit over 100km from it for my riding.

Thanks for the info! I've done a little more digging. It looks like 2C is a pretty common max discharge rate, which would mean 32A for the 16A battery.. so seems like I should be good if this battery has the same max discharge rate. I guess the only other question is what fuse is in the battery. For these batteries you have to open it up to get to it. I'll probably email Leon to be sure but if the other bike is computer limited at 25A then there's probably a lot of leeway.
