Dangerous and Illegal Helmet Cam

Is it dangerous and is it illegal in your biking locales, to bike with a mounted camera on your helmet?

It's legal here. I see a lot of motorbikers with a helmet cam but not many cyclists. I don't usually look for them so I assume they mount to their bike if they do use them. I have one mounted on my bars and one mounted on my rear rack.

Nope. Everybody that buys one of those stupid go-pros thinks they're the new hollyweird movie mogul. Like anybody wants to see all their uncut footage, right???? 🤣
The narcissism runs deep...and 'selfie-stick's? Dear lord.

Or they can be used as inexpensive insurance should anything happen. 😬

They could also be used against you, whether misbehaving, your fault accident or an injury caused to a pedestrian/other cyclists from the camera itself. If you must use one then mount on the handlebarts along with other accessories so it's less likely to be a specific cause of injury

True. I have front and rear dashcams in our vehicles, too. Last year, we were very unlucky and were involved in two minor crashes; both in which the vehicles changed out of their lane and into our front fender and door. The footage from our cameras made quick work of who was at fault. However, I do tell my wife not to disclose that we have cameras if she's driving on her own; just in the case there is something self-incriminating.

I try to behave myself as much as possible when I'm on the bike due to being a father to two very young kids and just basic self-preservation. 😬

I've found that when I'm wearing a helmet camera motorists are noticeably more respectful to me. It is worth it just for that.

And there is no way you'd ever get a picture like this without a helmet camera:

Also, at least in the United States, photography is not a crime. If you are in a public place taking photo or video you are 99 percent okay.

But @Browneye ,you're the only one on this page that has their own face as an avatar. :p

Unless that's what @Art Deco looks like in real life. Dude.

You want me to change it?
I don't have a go-pro.

"don't go changing to try and please me. you never let me down before."

But you don't really want your picture taken with a GoPro. The wide-angle adds at least 20 pounds. 📸

Although I spent WAY too much time in a suit and tie, I've never worn a tux or bow tie in my life. My avatar is a historical artifact dating to the times before Google and Facebook existed, too late to change it now.

See them on the trail and on a motorcyclist on the road from time to time. No one cares or even pays attention. We run them on our UTV's/SxS's for some of the real rough climbs or the occasional rollover footage.

All jokes aside, in Australia it's illegal to put a helmet cam on a motorbike lid but plenty of people do and the only time I've known police to care is when someone is stupid enough to leave their lid on and try to record a conversation with the police.

I'm not sure about the legality on bicycles , but my bell 3r came with a gopro mount ( which I removed immediately ) .

If you really must put a lever on your lid, please make sure it's mounted in a way that it breaks off in the event of impact and there are no leads wrapped around your neck. More importantly, please don't ride around with one of those drones following you taking video - they sound like a shimano with faulty bearings

So if the camera is illegal, than the footage shot with one of some bozo causing a wreck is inadmissible in court?
