Convert From Derailleur to IGH?

Well, finally! For 50 years the Sturmey Archer 3 speed was gear 1 direct, gear 2 150%, gear 3 200%. With a stocker 46 to 52 front sprocket & 18 rear, 2 was useable only downhill and 3 was useable never. 75%, 100%, 133% are much more useable. Been looking for a 24 tooth sprocket for mine; may be theoretically available but never stocked anywhere. I ride the 45 lb "austrian racer" very occasionally, mostly for the memories.
Universal Cycles has a 24t rear cog for it.
edit* not presently in stock of course.

It's been about a month now with my Sturmey Archer SX-RK3 3 speed IGH. This thing handles power very well. I have a gear shift sensor that works well but I still never shift under load. This hub handles 1500w from the BBSHD in all gears with ease.

Shifting has become fun! I can run deep and brake late, no pedalling and just twist down from 3rd to 1st and go back to full throttle and this hub just laughs it off. Getting proper tension on the chain was a pain in the ass but once that was sorted, man oh man this thing is so nice.

You get used to the clicking in 2nd and 3rd. With fat knobby tires, once you're going fast enough you can't hear the clicking over the sound of the tires.

With a 44t chainring and 20t rear cog, 1st goes up to 24mph. Starting off in 1st does require a bit of leg strength. The motor doesn't seem to mind throttling from a standstill in 1st but I'd love a 22t or 24t rear cog instead. The 26 inch wheels and 4.8 inch tires means the motor is spinning somewhere around 150 rpm at the cranks at the top of 1st gear. I can comfortably pedal at 20 mph in 3rd. 21-22 mph in third is an intense workout in low PAS. Past that and I am ghost pedalling.

After all the headaches of getting it built and installed and adjusted, ironing out all the small problems that arose, I can say it was well worth it. For $109 this hub is a monster.
