Conversion ideas

I’ve had at least one of every BBSxx series motors. I’m still riding a 2014 BBS01 36V 350W. With an actual 20Ah 21700 battery pack I get fantastic mileage even when I’m have a bad week and being heavy on the the throttle. A 7 speed in 4th gear a steady 15mph. 7th @ 20mph. My newest mid motor is a BBS01B 36V again but this time 500W for a 5mph top end increase, which I seldom use. I’ve found around the flat city streets it can be ridden as a one speed. Usually in 4th of 7. That’s something I had advised against for years but on the flats with a well greased motor, it seems completely sustainable. And because I have to many motors I’m continuing to beat on it to see just what it will take, but there’s no overheating unless there’s a lot of stop and go. What stop signs?;)

Just look both ways.

Thanks for the info, it all makes since, and the durability of my bike is a bit of a concern. The chain stay on the right side does have a preformed (dimple ) near the crank ring. I'm still not convinced I have the right donor bike. I may look at something else. Thanks again for the in depth assessment.
I have no experience with powerful (and heavy) Bafang mid drives but for the TSDZ2 I wouldn't overthink your donor bike. The TSDZ2 doesn't make for a super powered motorbike, only you but stronger. It is so easy and quick to install and remove that restoring a bike to stock isn't an issue. As I noted earlier, chainline is very good for my IGH and Nuvinci hubs with the optional 10mm dished chainring (stock is 5mm dished).
Installation of the photon looks to be equally quick and simple.
If the extra cost of the photon isn't an issue I'd hold out for reviews before choosing. At least if a torque sensing mid drive is what you are looking for.
Still, the tsdz2 is by far the least costly, available for $300 (maybe less) from some sellers

I guess it's from almost a decade of BBSxx series, I just don't like the feel, but continue to suggest the TSDZ2 as a good option for torque sensing conversions.

With all that power, the BBSHD really doesn't seem so heavy. But IMO they are best suited for pedicabs and cargo bikes where weight is a "meh!".
Not popular on this forum but I ride without assist much of the time only using it when needed so weight matters a lot to me. Plus lighter bikes make for a more pleasant and natural experience.

I don't mean to be suggesting or promoting the tongsheng, just giving my experience. Just because it works well for me doesn't mean that it is a good choice for the OP. I assume that someone who would like a Yamaha mid drive would also find a tsdz2 to perform well. Maybe not so much for those who like BBSxx mid drives or powerful hub motors. I hardly ever ride my bike with a geared rear hub motor even though it also performs well, just a matter of personal preference.

Here are some TSDZ2 IGH chainlines. Oh, when selecting a motor, know the seller's reputation. Do you have to ship a dud motor to Outer Mongolia for $500 in shipping? Is there any support? How much is the total cost after all fees? Also here is how that latest Vida build turned out.

I am awaiting the new curved back HB and that Vida is ready to fly. The controller is set a 16Amps. Speed at a 45Kph limit. Wheel size, 5 inches in diameter. No speed sensor wire. That is chopped for immediacy of feel. The lines of this bike are by far to sexy.
"I'm too sexy for my car
Too sexy for my car
Too sexy by a fart?"
