Commuter from Louisville, KY— Hello!

As the title suggests, I am a regular commuter on an E-Bike and thought I would share my experiences. I have been riding a Pedego Interceptor for about a year and a half and I have really enjoyed my time in the saddle.

This bike works for me because I am not a cyclist—or at least I never used to be—and I find that it removes the barrier to entry to cycling. It addresses two central challenges that I had always experienced when on a bike: comfort in the street and comfort in the saddle/body position.

In the past, I never felt comfortable riding a regular bike in the street because I didn’t feel like I had enough power/speed to respond safely to the traffic flow around me.

Pedego bikes are known for their powerful hub motors and with this bike I feel like I have good acceleration and top speed when riding in a bike lane or taking a lane. When in the city streets, I typically ride between 18-25 mph. I use the top speed when I am trying to catch a series of green lights or I don’t want to slow down traffic. When I am riding for recreation and on a MUP/trail, I typically ride between 12-18mph. In these situations I am generally trying to preserve battery juice. My favorite recreational trail is along the Ohio River and that trip is generally a 20 mile round trip. For the most part, I don’t feel the need to go much longer than that.

As for my commute, it is pretty short: 7 mile round trip. I generally feel safe and comfortable doing my commute but I also have to be very alert and tuned in when riding.

Now let’s talk body position and saddle comfort. I am 6’0”, 165 pounds and 36 years old. Any time I had ridden a bicycle in the past, I had always found the saddle to be uncomfortable, so I was blown away when I rode the Interceptor and I was actually relaxed in the saddle. In addition, when riding bikes in the past, I would always want to be fully upright and adopt a lounging position, no matter the style of bike. So when I rode the Interceptor and noticed that it was designed to accommodate and even encourage that style of body position I was quite pleased.

Bottom Line, I am fit and healthy but I wouldn’t be riding a bike at all if I didn’t have an e-bike.

Welcome to the site. Nice comfortable looking bike. I've never seen one of those. Seat looks like the one on my Mother's 1946 Firestone bike. The comfy seat you see left came off a girl's 29" bike I bought for $15 at Salvation Army resale: for the seat.
I'm from Jeffersonville, IN. Wave as you blow by me sometime. I ride about 8 mph, unpowered unless the wind is >13 mph in my face. I ride the river trail sometimes, either side of the Ohio. Go to concerts on the Belvedere sometimes, cable up to the rail under I64. I'm afraid of Dixie Hwy or Brownsboro or Shelbyville rd, but have been out Shelby St/Poplar Level Rd to shop a couple of times. Berms are wider on this side of the river, IMHO. I ride out to Marysville, Clark Cty weekly summers; use the electricity on about 30 of the 77 hills to out there.
